I love homemade meatloaf that has a ketsup topping.

Should never read a delicious looking recipe lens just before dinner. My stomach is growling! I found your tomato sauce ingredient really interesting; I've always used just Ketchup in my meatloaf(s). :)

I once tried a meatloaf recipe that was made the usual way, divided into two parts, put one part in the meatloaf pan, add a layer of stuffing mixed with onions and mushrooms, then top with the second layer of meatloaf and cook. It's delicious, but because the 'stuffing' middle doesn't hold together well (the meatloaf slice falls apart) it isn't conducive for (neat anyway) 'cold meatloaf sandwiches' for lunch (my hubby's favorite!). :)

Once I had meatloaf that had a few small potatoes inside ... nice surprise when sliced, and quite delicious. This lens has made me hungry ... great job!
  • ScareYouDiva Oct 24, 2011 @ 9:42 am | delete

I do love meatloaf, but prefer it hot, this sounds like a good recipe, and sure would have lots of nice flavor.
  • puzzlemaker Jan 7, 2011 @ 1:18 pm | delete
Yes, meatloaf is comfort food. Meatloaf with a side of mashed potatoes and something green - YUM! I do like ketchup though. And yes, a meatloaf sandwich the next day is yummy.
  • Mrmakingusmile Dec 28, 2010 @ 2:26 pm | delete
Good lens. I tend to over it if it's really good. LOL
  • paperfacets Dec 14, 2010 @ 5:03 pm | delete
This surely looks good, but we are having your Goulash tonight with the dumplings. Everyone in the house likes it.
  • AmateurAtHTML Nov 23, 2010 @ 12:13 pm | delete
Multiple meats is a tremendous tip for outstanding meatloaf. My husband says that all meatloaf has to have a topping of tomato sauce. We've "argued" about that for the 29 years we've been married!
  • Mujjen Nov 11, 2010 @ 8:39 am | delete
I'm on my way to the kitchen, will let you know later!
  • poutine Oct 6, 2010 @ 3:48 pm | delete

I do love meatloaf and I haven't had it for awhile.
I'd have to say that meatloaf is one of those recipes for which I have a favorite recipe and am reluctant to try another one, as good as yours sounds.
  • Sylvestermouse Sep 10, 2010 @ 7:09 pm | delete
What a unique recipe! I have never added pork or bacon. I will definitely have to try your recipe. A little change every now and then never hurt anyone, ummmm, while not too bad anyway :)
  • eclecticeducation Sep 8, 2010 @ 3:01 pm | delete
Sounds yummy! Blessed by an Angel.
  • Bill Jun 15, 2010 @ 4:29 pm | delete
    What does this mean?
2/3 cup Bertoli olive oil and garlic spaghetti sauce? Do you mean 2/3 cup of each? If not, what portions of each make up the 2/3 cup?
1/2 cup Vigo Italian style bread crumbs with imported romano cheese. Same question with these ingredients.

Do you mean 2/3 cup of each? If not, what portions go into the 2/3 cup.

When I go to a really nice restaurant if there is meatloaf on the menu, I get it!

Thanks for your recipe. It gives me some ideas for my own.

Blessed by this Squid Angel today. (I finally joined your fan club, cannot believe I had not done so before!)
  • JaguarJulie Jun 14, 2010 @ 9:31 am | delete
Well, first of all ... thank YOU for taking time to drop by! Appreciate it. A Squid Angel blessing is icing on the cake. Thanks for that too. And, not to worry about the fan club as sometimes one joins and it doesn't register ... you know. AND, yes I too will try that meatloaf on the menu when we are out dining ... just to check their recipe. Hugs!
  • Nochipra Feb 22, 2010 @ 2:34 am | delete
Gonna have to try this recipe! Sounds DELISH!
  • mbgphoto Feb 14, 2010 @ 10:34 am | delete
I love meatloaf and I'm always looking for new ways to try it. Last night I made a meatloaf using 1/2 can of tomato soup in the meatloaf. I saved the other 1/2 can and added a 2 T of the drippings to it and 1/4 cup of water and cooked it in a saucepan. it made a great gravy topping for the baked meatloaf! Thanks for a yummy lens!
  • JanetG Jan 31, 2010 @ 4:20 pm | delete
Anxious to try some of these recipes. I like meat loaf with lots of Heinz Ketchup.
  • JanetG Jan 31, 2010 @ 4:18 pm | delete
As an adult, I do enjoy meat loaf with lots of Heinz Ketchup on it. I am very picky about meat loaf and never order it in a restaurant. You never know what's in that stuff.
  • jeffwend Jan 6, 2010 @ 11:07 pm | delete
As a kid I hated it, then I turned vegetarian. About 4 years ago, I started eating meat again and gave meatloaf a second try. I loved it! My wife is vegetarian so I have a hard time getting it in the house, but I won't hesitate to order it off a menu or better yet have it at family members or friends house. Gotta leave a blessing for one of my favorite dishes.

  • alteredkat Jun 18, 2009 @ 4:49 pm | delete
Yum yum yum!...it's one of those timeless recipes that get passed down...I remember my mom making it for me, I make it for my kids...

I love it in the winter baking hot right out of the oven with potatoes and gravy...great comfort food!

Looks fabulous. I have made vegetarian meat loaf which turned out pretty well.
  • AndyPo May 5, 2009 @ 11:53 am | delete
Meatloaf is not very common here in England (in fact most people think it is a large rock musician) but I have had it in America a few times and it's certainly very tasty. I have never tried cooking it. I must give it a try.

Great lens, I actually use my meatloaf recipe and cook them in Texas muffin tins as they make an ideal sized one for hubby to take to work etc. It also seems to go further as when it's one big loaf the slices get thicker and the next thing you know the whole things gone!!
  • RolandTumble Nov 5, 2008 @ 2:28 pm | delete
I prefer to bake my meatloaf on a flat pan, then deglaze the pan to make gravy. Good either way, though....

I enjoy meatloaf, especially if it's a good one. Don't eat it too often, but yours sounds really good. One time I do eat it is when I go to Golden Corral - theirs is really good (and their pot roast is excellent). 5***** for another fantastic lens.

Julie, this is another great lens. One of these days, you should try the St. Aubyn's Pride BBQ sauce instead of your tomato sauce in this recipe. I bet it would be super. I have subbed it out in many of my own recipes. Welcome to the Comfort Food Group!

Meatloaf is my youngest son's favorite food. If it was up to him, we would have it every night.
