My Mind -- My Most Prized Possession!

Ranked #334 in Me, #47,812 overall

So what is my most prized possession? It has got to be my mind for if I lost my mind, I would be an empty person!

This has been the most difficult lens that I have authored to date. Why is it so difficult? The Giant Squid Summer School assignment for the second week was to create a lens on our most prized possession -- to take a look around our house and find that one thing that is most meaningful to us and to write about it. I took this task to heart and started to think, "what is my most prized possession?" When hubby got home, I asked him. You know what he said? First he said it's my computer as I am attached at the hip to my computer. Next, he quickly said that he was my most prized possession. Hmmm, perhaps!

But as I progressed into dream land that night, I realized that although I probably could name a few tangible prized possessions, the most important 'possession' would have to be my mind! "For, what else would matter in the world if I were to be of half a mind or worse yet, to lose my mind? If I were to lose my mind, I would be an empty person, an empty soul." --JaguarJulie

What's on your mind is probably on my mind too!

Which of these is at the top of your mind?

I have a lot on my mind these days!

What more would you expect from a WAHWW?

Probably because I am a WAHW -- a work at home workaholic and thought of as a WAHWW -- a work at home wonder woman, I have lots on my mind! I just couldn't imagine how I would balance my life if I were to lose my most prized possession -- my mind!

Have you given this any thought? You go about your day like the previous day, doing your job, interacting with friends and family and your boss. You are constantly pulled here and there and trying to meet all your obligations and be a responsible person. But what if you weren't able to keep up with everything? What if it got to be too much? What if you found yourself in the predicament of losing your mind?

I'm not trying to get too deep here -- to start waxing philosophically -- but just being thankful for what I have! Sure, I have worked just as hard as the next guy to get to where I am today. I've been lucky for the most part to be a healthy person. But, I wasn't given anything on a silver platter! I worked very hard to be who I am and to be where I am today. I believe in a good honest day's work. I don't believe in coasting through life.

And, it is probably because of my strong work ethics and sense of honesty that I am sitting here thinking how grateful I am to have lived this long and to have accomplished what I have.

"Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." -- Mark Twain

What's on my mind is surely on your mind!

So, what would you do?

What would you want If you were to lose your mind?

ElizabethJeanAllen says:

I teach so I lose my mind on a regular bases. Keep looking and you'll find it again...or not realize you lost it in the first place.

CCGAL says:

Of All The Things I've Lost, I Miss My Mind The Most.

BigGirlBlue says:

Those who have lost their mind live well. At least that's what the voices have told me.

Tipi says:

This is funny and humor is so needed!

C-Joy says:

Losing my mind hasn't slowed me down much anyway, so I would continue on!

I'd want to call it a day and greet St. Peter at the pearly gates of Heaven!

says:

I would like to think that by the time I lose my mind, that I will have achieved all of my dreams and desires. If that were the case, I would be more that happy to pull the pin and call it a day. If not, then it doesn't really matter, because the mind will be lost, and there will be no one home to realize it.

Blonde_Blythe says:

Time to move on to a better life. I'll choose heaven over being a vegetable who has no control over oneself any day of the week! :-)

KimGiancaterino says:

I watched my strong-willed grandmother's mind and personality deteriorate, courtesy of Alzheimer's. Not the route I'd choose to go.

TheGreenerMe says:

Without a mind, I would call it a day. Then again, would you have the mental capacity to call it a day if you were to lose your mind?

aj2008 says:

Definitely time to call it a day if it happened

My Mind is ... (XXV) by E. E. Cummings

... a big hunk of irrevocable nothing ...

my mind is
a big hunk of irrevocable nothing which touch and taste and smell
and hearing and sight keep hitting and chipping with sharp fatal
tools
in an agony of sensual chisels i perform squirms of chrome and ex

nevertheless i
feel that i cleverly am being altered that i slightly am becoming
something a little different, in fact
myself
Hereupon helpless i utter lilac shrieks and scarlet bellowings.

E. E. Cummings: Complete Poems, 1904-1962

Amazon Price: $31.50 (as of 11/16/2009)Buy Now

Amazon Product Description: This centennial edition of E. E. Cumming's Complete Poems, published in celebration of his birth on October 14, 1894, contains all of the poems published or designated for publication by the poet in his lifetime.

At the time of his death in 1962, E. E. Cummings was, next to Robert Frost, the most widely read poet in America. Combining Thoreau's controlled belligerence with the brash abandon of an uninhibited bohemian, Cummings, together with Pound, Eliot, and William Carlos Williams, helped bring about the twentieth-century revolution in literary expression.

He is recognized on the one hand as the author of some of the most beautiful lyric poems written in the English language, and on the other as one of the most inventive American poets of his time-in the worlds of Richard Kostelanetz, "the major American poet of the middle-twentieth-century."

About the Author: E. E. Cummings (1894-1962) was among the most influential, widely read, and revered modernist poets. His many awards included an Academy of American Poets Fellowship, two Guggenheim Fellowships, and the Bollingen Prize.
