My ouija board story and why I do not recommend people use ouija boards

With Halloween coming I noticed some articles on ouija boards. I had an experience as a teenager while using the ouija board that I felt compelled to share with everyone.

Every time I tell this story my hairs stand on end and I get goose bumps. Needless to say I do not recommend using ouija to make contact with the spiritual world as it is known to attract evil.

After you read my story you can participate in the duel debate bellow by answering yes or no to the question "Do you think Ouija boards attract evil?" If you have a Ouija story of your own add it to the Ouija board experience section.

The Ouija Board Story

type=textI was 13 years old when I had my experience with the ouija board. Me and a few friends decided to give it a try and see what happened. I used the board with a couple of friends one who like me was named Paul.

We placed our hands lightly on the slider and I became the caller asking the questions out loud for the spiritual world to hear. I called out "Can you hear us?" and there was no response so I called again "Can you hear us?" nothing again.

I decided to try with a different friend named Rob and repeated the same "Can you hear us?" to both our amazement it moved this time. it circled the entire board making a figure 8 over and over about 3-4 times before stopping. I called out what is your age. the board again moved to the Zero. I found this odd but it led me to believe that this spirit was never born as human.

We asked it several questions that it gave us the answer for. After a few minutes the Spirit spelled out "I should not be talking with you" so I called back "Why Not" the spirit replied "Because of My Tyrant."

I turned to my friend who was also 13 at the time and said what is a Tyrant? Neither one of us had any clue as to the definition of this word. So we took a break from the ouija board and went upstairs to look up Tyrant in the dictionary.

I remember the definition we found to the word "Tyrant - An evil overpowering ruler such as the devil."

I never touched the board again.

Cassiddi says:

And if it goes in a figue 8 then u will have a stoke or the devil goes in side you I think my friend said

Cassiddi says:

I think they do my mom doesn't want to get one because she is scared of one. Last night I played it on my iPad I asked it a question but it went to know and kept moving so I x it out cuz my friend was scared. But my friend the night before played with others and lots of stuff happened. People say it affects Catholics which means It wil affect me and my family.

Bob says:

I think that Ouija Boards do attract Evil. I think that you shouldn't mess with the other side. A lot of bad experiences come from Ouija Boards. They probably even chang your fate!

ImABeliever. says:

Well, me and my friends were just outside playing with one and both times it attacked me. The first spirit was a BAD ghost (according to him) that was seeking revenge because he was killed. He sat on my back and was literally pushing me downwards. When we should have stopped there, we kept playing. The second encounter was with a bad spirit (demon) named "QMB" and said its going to hurt me physically; when I asked why it wanted to hurt me, it spelled out "OMA". Will it actually happen is a question that can only be answered over time.

unknown says:

watchout

jacque says:

Yes, many people have been possesed or worse I say stay away if you want to be happy!

stephanie says:

i say that they should only be used by people that know what they are doing not kids who don't know the difference between lower energy and higher energy but they don't always attract evil it can also be used to maybe contact a loved one from the other side or help a spirt cross over to the other side.

No

Lilli says:

If you ask for the age, and it goes to 0, that means it is a demon, because demons were never human. That's where you should have stopped and said "thank you for your time" and moved it to "Good Bye". Bit I do not believe ouija boards attract evil, it's how you handle it.

Fake as hell says:

This story is obviously fake. Nice details.

samantha says:

Yes i am 10 years old i had my experiance when i played it on the computer when i stopped playing it i heard someone in the kitchen when i went to see who it was no one was there i heard someone wisper in my ear and they said hi did you miss me then i remembered my best friend emily died when i started playing it i never again played it make this be a lesson to you it was not my friend who was talking it was the devil don't play ouija board or you will meet the devil!!!!!

Erin says:

I say hecky no they can but its not on porpose you cant say their bad after one time you talk to a demon ps if you talk to a demon then don't act scared becase they feed on fear!

sam says:

no but that = creppy

KimGiancaterino says:

My only experiences with a Ouija board were at slumber parties, and my girlfriends and I were masters at scaring the heck out of each other. My parents never bought one for our family, though.

Mimi says:

I think it depends on what spirits you attract exactly...

jvsper63 says:

No

samsaradakini says:

I think it attracts what we expect. I have many spirit boards including a ouija which i have only used a couple of times for fun. Mainly i use the boards that help my highest self develop. :)

Magickal_Mysts says:

I use mine and I have never encountered anything evil. If you set the setting properly, the chances of that occurring are slim. I am not placing any doubt that evil does come through but my experiences have not had that occur.

noticed a lot of teenage girls having bad experiences with ouija boards. i wonder if there is a link?
  • AlleyCatLane Dec 21, 2011 @ 8:58 am | delete
I have used one as a kid with no freaky experiences, but who is to say it can't be a portal. I enjoy hearing about others' experiences. Thanks for sharing.

I think you are very wise to avoid Ouija Boards or anything remotely like it.
  • cheerfulnuts Nov 10, 2011 @ 8:05 pm | delete
This is a short but scary story. A lot of teens want to try something like this because they believe it's cool. I think it's more harmful than cool. Thanks for sharing this.
  • KimGiancaterino Nov 7, 2011 @ 9:43 pm | delete
What a great story. I can see why you'd prefer to stay away from Ouija boards now.

Creepy! I have never used a Ouija board but I do believe there are lots of things we don't understand -- things which do have the potential to harm us.

I haven't had any personal experiences with Ouija boards and choose to stay away but I noticed that many persons here seem to agree that it's NOT a toy and not for kids but really does have the ability to contact spirits - it should be taken seriously. Great idea for a lens. Two thumbs up!

Ouija boards are tools and are not discerning about who or what come through them. I played with them as a kid but would not go near one now.
  • grannysage Oct 15, 2011 @ 2:23 am | delete
A Ouija board is not a toy and should not be treated like one. It is a divination tool and should only be used when sacred space has been created. That way any spirit entities will not be able to enter unless you invite them. I agree with some previous visitors that if you don't recommend them, you shouldn't offer them for sale. Perhaps suggest some family games that people can play together over the holidays.

I only tried the Ouija board once...probably around the age of 11. Won't do it again.

PS - both my lights went out AND the phone disconnected at the same time...sigh...and it was a land line at the time
  • nuestraherencia Oct 13, 2011 @ 10:48 pm | delete
I'm freaked reading about this...I had played with it as a kid and it was no big deal. I never really believed in it. Once, while living alone I purchased one. I remember the day I took it out and I was on the phone with my ex sister-in-law...as soon as I asked the board a question, the lights went out in my apt. I lived for over 26 yrs in Texas and my lights went out maybe 2-3 times in that whole time...it was enough for me to get rid of it, although I used to think it was just a toy before. I'd love to have one, but honestly, maybe I should just stay away... lol

I just finished reading your lens and I'm having goosebumps! I agree, do not play with the spirits. It's something that is beyond normal and beyound our control as humans! Very scary!

Have had one experience with the Ouija board and it did not attract any evil spirit, however the whole experience was spooky! The spirits are better left alone!
  • foovay Oct 12, 2011 @ 12:28 pm | delete
Excellent lens and thank you for sharing your experience. Maybe at least you will dissuade someone from buying one as a "toy" for children.

My friends and I fooled around with a ouija board when we were about 14. Nothing bad happened to me, but my best friend still swears that strange things happened in her house for weeks after that!
  • AJTyne Oct 11, 2011 @ 12:20 am | delete
I hope your lens helps someone to avoid danger. God commands us in the Bible not to ever dabble with spirits of any kind -- ghosts, games like ouiga, etc, are ALL trickery leading people to leave themselves unprotected against Satan and his demons. I thank God that the once we played as kids went nowhere as far as anything happening! We considered it a game, like the magic 8 ball, but my mother told us never to play again. God's rules are not meant to hurt but to protect us. I almost didn't even read your lens -- I take it that seriously. But since you had in the title that you never recommend anyone use one, I read it so that I could add my voice to yours. God Bless.
  • JDWheeler Oct 10, 2011 @ 11:54 am | delete
I watched the movie Witchboard when I was around 12, and never fooled with one after that.
  • Gold3 Oct 10, 2011 @ 9:40 am | delete
As a child, we played with one. No weird experiences. But now they creep me out!
  • SereneSea Oct 10, 2011 @ 1:38 am | delete
Ouija boards can be dangerous for some, better leave them at that. Not sure whether all the stories are real, but there must be some truth in it if people have similar experiences.
  • CCGAL Oct 9, 2011 @ 10:46 pm | delete
So is it just me or is there a bit of a contradiction here in that while you don't recommend anybody using a "WeeGee" board (sorry, I don't want to add any more keywords) you've got them plastered in the "buy me" boxes? I would have expected, because you sound quite sincere about wanting to warn people away from them, that you'd have featured alternative games and books that back up your position that they are dangerous. Just feels like a disconnect to me having your words say one thing and your Amazon links saying something else.
  • AJTyne Oct 11, 2011 @ 12:34 am | delete
Yes, I have to agree. You do sound sincere about this, so perhaps you didn't know how to get rid of those ads? you can pick your own products. The only one I'm not sure you can fix is the ones that Squidoo has that is for an online oiu game. But there are lots of good games as well as books about these matters that might strengthen your lens and your message.
  • KarenKay Oct 9, 2011 @ 9:40 am | delete
Thanks for getting the warning out. I think ouija boards are better saved for those who do this sort of thing professionally and know what to look out for.

When I was 15 years old, my sisters, my best friend at the time and I decided to 'play' with a Ouija board too..... It told us many things and in the end it wanted us to grab a knife in the kitchen and a bottle of alcohol.... When we asked 'Why' it told us 'Sacrifice'...... We started screaming and stopped playing.... Except 'it' didn't leave us..... 'It' stayed in my bedroom and started dropping all of my books and records (I'm old.... Lol) from my bookshelf and we had to call a professional medium to get rid of the entity.... The medium told us we could have actually killed somebody on that day..... Never play with the spirit world.......

Thanks for posting this lens against the use of a Ouiji Board. I had a scary experience with one as a kid and so did my sister-in-law. It is totally creepy.

Too spooky. I can see why once was enough for you.
  • WindyWinters Oct 7, 2011 @ 2:57 pm | delete
I have never used one but my daughter and her friends tried it once. I wondered what they were doing and saw the board move more than once myself. We were all totally freaked out about it and we never talked about the experience either. I would agree that they have some strange powers and wouldn't recommend using them either.
  • prosperity66 Oct 6, 2011 @ 1:36 am | delete
Well well well... Scary story. However, basically, I don't really believe in evil and the like, but I've had a strange experience in a castle ten years ago so I couldn't say there's nothing behind this.

But you were so young when you experienced this. Maybe give it another try and see what happens? Or just let the ouija board where it is and don't touch it any more...
  • Chris-H Oct 6, 2011 @ 12:06 am | delete
I have no doubt that you had a spooky experience.

My only comment would be that we humans are hard wired to search for connections. Without that ability we could never understand language. If you have an expectation that something is going to happen then you will look for it to happen. If what you get is gibberish for a while you will discount that, but then the first thing that seems not to be gibberish you will latch onto.

We like to be scared. If you had done this and nothing happened (as is the case with many people even by the comments here) then you would not have been repeating your story. But the fact that eventually you did make a connection makes it stand out in your mind.

I'm not discounting your story. I'm just saying that we interpret things based on our expectations. It's part of who we are.

At least that's how I see it. I'm glad you shared and took the time to put together this lens though!

My Ouija board spelled out a strange message recently. Something about respecting your local food police. Then they said cheese cake and desserts feed spirochetes. I have a very wise Ouija board!
  • SandyPeaks Oct 5, 2011 @ 5:44 am | delete
I tried one as a teenager when we knew it only as a toy, but we got no response other than our own deliberate efforts. It was years later before I started reading of the frightening results that others got, and warnings from many novelists and psychics for amateurs not to touch them unless they're with expert users and under psychic protection.
  • CosmeticMom Oct 3, 2011 @ 1:23 pm | delete
I too tried one, but nothing bad happened...thank goodness! Watching "The Exorcist" scared me me more then anything about messing with the occult...etc. I think teens just love to see what could happen and do think of anything "evil" in doing it. Thanks for posting this page! I

Thank you for sharing your story. I too had a bad experience with a ouija board. I was 15. It kept answering "no" over and over no matter what our question was and it was whipping over to "no" quite aggressively. Then it slowly spelled out "I hate kids." I too never touched one again.
  • Mickie_G Sep 30, 2011 @ 9:10 am | delete
I think using a ouija board is something that 13 year olds do quite often. I speak from experience. It is a scary thing.

Well that story will raise the hair at the back of your neck for sure, some things are best left alone! We did have an Ouija board growing up but never any results that stand out like yours.
  • MeganShoop Sep 29, 2011 @ 6:33 am | delete
Ouija boards are very tricky things. It's really good that you shared your experience here. AS with any volitile tool, if it's used improperly, you can really get hurt. I would not encourage any child, or even an inexperienced adult, to use a Ouija board. If you decide you're going to, it should be with an experienced practitioner whom you trust. You must put up protection circles to keep things away you don't want to talk to. Even then, there is no garantee.

The key with anything having to do with the occult or magick is: when in doubt, don't do it. You'll never regret missing the chance to invite something unwanted and harmful into your life and home.
  • elyria Sep 29, 2011 @ 2:43 am | delete

I don't believe Ouija boards attract evil any more than we as humans do in our daily lives. If you look for evil in places, or were raised to believe things like spirits are evil, you are more likely to find proof of this. Just my thoughts.

My best Ouija experience was in college. Three of us were trying to contact a spirit, and something kept making the board move. The first few letters would make sense, but then it would spell gibberish. It identified itself with a name like Omar, and we tried to figure out his ethnicity by asking "how do you say hello". Instead of spelling out something in a foreign language, he spelled out "bow wow". When we announced to the others in the lounge that we had apparently been talking with a dog named Omar, a football player across the room, who none of us socialized with, turned white. He had a dog named Omar for most of his childhood that had passed away a few years prior. The player immediately dropped whatever he had been doing to come over and converse with his dog. He was nearly in tears over the spiritual reunion.

I would gladly play with a Ouija board again for the chance of experiencing something as sweet as the reunion of a boy and his dog. :)

Thank you Paul for writing about your experience. So many believe these things are "harmless" but they are not. As a former "new age/occult" practitioner, I know they are not. I'm so thankful that as "friends" were trying to influence me to go deeper into the occult, Jesus Christ opened my eyes to the Truth! When children are exposed to these "harmless" games etc, they are opened up to demonic spiritual influences. Thank you again for speaking out :)

We have one in the game closet in our basement. My mom is the one who bought it, and always told us it was a game. We played it at our middle school sleepovers and always asked it stuff like "Who will I marry?" We were really silly, but I never thought of it as contacting spirits until I was a little older. I will not even touch the thing now. I also have a deck of tarot cards I got for a school assignment (I don't remember what the assignment was, something about superstition maybe?). I went through a period where the occult really intrigued me, but I refuse to do any of it now. And I agree with Tricia, you must put up protection--let the spirits know you do not invite them in, that you are strong in your faith and they are weak against it.
  • Tricia Sep 26, 2011 @ 10:43 pm | delete
I think it's actually kind of interesting...just a thought but perhaps it was a confused spirit and it happened to connect with a bunch of boys getting caught up in the moment??? In my opinion, it's not really any worse than any other divination tool. You should always set up some sort of psychic protection when doing divination work (something a 13 year old isn't likely to know about?). I've used cards and I set up protection before I read and although I may not always like the answer, it's never been a negative or scary thing. In fact, a cousin I hadn't seen in years and I had a wonderful bonding experience full of giggles and fun over cards. Basically, I'm saying I don't understand what's so bad about a board with letters and numbers on it and a pointer.

    Interesting topic though! :)
