Welcome to My Squidoo Tips 6

Guestbook Module Settings
With the Guestbook module, I like to change the default setting for "When should their blurbs be approved?" to "Ask me first" and keep the default "Yep" for the approval email.
This is for two reasons.
- It will reduce spam entries (you can approve, decline or ban entries before they appear on your lens) and;
- It lets you know there is activity on your lens (when you receive the email notice).
Default Settings for Module
As you can see there are several settings you can set to your own preferences.
How to Delete a Guestbook Entry
Open up your Guestbook module by clicking on "Edit".

1. Click on the "Show Current Blubs" link.

2. Find the entry you want to delete, click on "Delete".
3. You will get a pop-up box that asks you if you are sure, click on "OK".
4. "Save" your module.
5. Save your changes to the lens, click on "Publish"
Guestbook Module Glitch
The one small glitch I have noticed when you change the settings to "Ask me first" for "When should their blurbs be approved?" is that you do not receive the approval notification email until you do the next following step.If you don't do this step, you may have multiple guestbook entries not showing (as they are sitting there waiting for approval) and you won't realize you have entries (as you haven't received any approval emails).
What is the step? Once your lens is published, be sure to keep checking until you receive your first guestbook entry.
This is done by editing the Guestbook module. Once you click on "Edit" for the Guestbook module, you will see the guestbook entries (if there are some) waiting for your approval.
Once you approve your first Guestbook entry, you should not have to do this any more. You should now start receiving the approval email notices when you have a guestbook entry.
Update: Since they started with the new "Comments" tab in our Dashboards, so far this doesn't appear to happen, but when you make a new lens, it doesn't hurt to check.
Where is your Guestbook Module?
Quick Tips
I recommend that you have your Guestbook Module at the bottom of your lens. When they are in the middle of the lens page, I find they are sometimes missed. You might be missing some great comments and accolades from other lensmasters. If you do not have "Allow Contact" on in your accounts settings (under My Profile on your Dashboard), definitely include a Guestbook module. The biggest complaint by those who run Squidoo Groups is if they want to contact a lensmaster who applied to their group for any reason, they are unable to.
For those who leave guestbook entries, did you know that many lensmasters will not approve a guestbook entry if there is a link included that is not to a Squidoo lens, i.e. is to a website outside of Squidoo.

You answered my question of how to change the settings for the guest book. I couldn't remember where I saw the settings, only that I had set them on my first lens, but not on my others. Great job

How do you get the popup after signing the guestbook, like JaguarJulie does often on hers? I've been trying to figure that out. :)
