Welcome to My Squidoo Tips 7
This Squidoo Tutorial is a quick, down and dirty tutorial to create your first Squidoo lens, complete with print screens.
Getting Started
If you haven't signed up yet on Squidoo, click here to register and then come on back.
Create a Lens
If you are already signed up or after you sign up, you can now create a Lens and follow the instructions and print screens below.
Step 1: So, what's your lens about?
Click on the orange "Go to Step 2" button
Step 2: What do you want to do with your lens?
So unless you want to change it, keep the default.
Click on the orange "Go to Step 3" button
Step 3: Title and URL
Enter your URL. If the URL is already taken, the system will advise you. Just try another variation.
Select your category from the drop down menu.
As you can see, I used "my-squidoo-tips-7" for the URL and "How to & Education" for the category.
Rate your lens next, the default is G RATED MATERIAL, if it is X Rated, there are two choices on the drop down menu. Select accordingly.
Make sure the information you entered is correct.
Click on the orange "Go to Step 4" button.
Step 4: Help people find your lens
The actual title of the lens may not be the best choice for keywords, so you may wish to change them here now or later on (refer to About Tags below).
I had to change my "Squidoo Tips 7 (Just the Basics)" that was carried forward in this box, as you can't use brackets as key words, and I use "squidoo tips" as my main key word for all my tutorial lenses.
I added 3 keywords in the blank boxes; "squidoo tips" (repeated), "educational" and "how to".
Enter the security words as shown on your screen.
Click on the orange "Done" button.

Squidoo Tagging Tricks: (how to get more visitors and a better search engine ranking using only tags)
-
Adding tags to your lens is a great way to get found by more people. Through Google, through Squidoo Search, and through lensmasters clicking on their own tags links. Basically, tagging is very very good. But only if you know what you're doing. So...
About Your Lens being Published
There is a difference between having enough modules/content where it says it is published to being actually published in the Squidoo system.
After you click the Publish button when creating a new lens, if you have enough content/modules, you will see the green message box "Your lens has been published! Want some tips from our Editor on how to boost your LensRank, promote your lens, and reach more people? Click here".
What this means is that if you click on the URL of that lens, that you can see the lens page itself rather than an under construction page.
Once Squidoo actually publishes the lens through the system, it is then truly published and that lens will now show the green check mark in your Dashboard.
To be truly published, showing the green check mark, it usually takes until the following morning, but can sometimes take longer depending on variables I know nothing about LOL.
I know on weekends, it can sometimes take until Monday morning to be published.
Basically, one must be patient until Squidoo runs the newly created lenses through the system.
Quick Tips
When you set up your Profile be sure to include "Allow Contact" under the Email Preferences. This is important if you are business or individual selling so that a potential customer can easily contact you.
Also useful for when you join groups. If there is a problem with your lens submission, the groupmaster can easily contact you.
Of course, not everyone is comfortable to include this, you might not want to be contacted at all, I just wanted to point it out and explain the purpose of it.
The "Contact me" link (contact me) is located on the top of the page, above your bio where it says "created by".
