Welcome to My Squidoo Tips 2

This Squidoo Tips lens will talk about getting you started with your Lens Title, Introduction module and how to add/remove modules, complete with print screens.

Step 1 - Lens Title Module

As soon as I have created a lens, the first thing I do is look at my lens title again.

Sometimes I change my mind. As you can see I first entered "My Squidoo Tips 2" when first setting up this lens, and later when at this stage, I changed it to "Squidoo Tips 2 (Modules)"

1. If you want to change it, click on the "Edit" button of this module.

2. Click "Save"

Step 2 - Introduction, Contents & Discovery Module

Open the Introduction, Contents & Discovery module by clicking on the "Edit" button.

1. Enter the Lens Intro Title.

It may be the same as the Lens Title module or you may want it to be different. My Lens Title is Squidoo Tips 2 (Modules) and my Lens Intro Title is Welcome to My Squidoo Tips 2.

2. Add text to the Lens Description box

3. Be sure to save this first BEFORE you add an image to the Lens Photo.

4. Open up the module again (by clicking the "Edit" button) and add an image to the Lens Photo.

Once you upload the image, click on the "Save" button again.

You can check out the other tabs (Table of Contents and the Discovery Tool) and set to your preferences.

I set the Table of Contents to "Off (decreases clicks and revenue)" as I prefer to use the Table of Contents Module instead, I find it looks nicer on the page.

I set the Discover Tool to "Off (isolate this lens from the Discovery feature)" as I don't like the way this looks on the lens.

My Squidoo Tutorial on adding links to the Introduction Module.

Step 2 - Preparing the Modules

I then prepare my modules.

A newly created lens already includes a preset number of modules, they may be different now, but could include the following modules:

Introduction
RSS
Text
Amazon
Flickr Photos
YouTube vids
Guestbook
Del.icio.us bookmarks
Links Plexo
Amazon Plexo
Google Blog Search

1. To get started, click on the Add Modules button.

2. Select your Modules (you might want to make yourself familiar with what they all do).

You are on the Basic tab right now. Hold your cursor over the Add links, and a menu will appear to explain what they are. There are two pages, on the first Basic Tab, so click on the second page as well (YouTube is there). While you are at it, you may also want to check out the other Tabs for additional modules available.

3. Once you have selected the modules you want to add to your lens, click on the "Preview" button.

This will bring up your Lens Preview Layout.

4. Delete the modules you don't want to use.

5. Drag the remaining modules up or down, in the order you want them to appear.

Tip: I suggest having the Guestbook module at the very end.

6. If everything looks correct, click on Save.

Preview Modules Glitch

When in the Preview mode, sometimes after you delete the modules you do not want to use, the "Save" and "Cancel" buttons disappear. This is usually when there are several modules on a lens.

Quick Fix

Anytime this happens, drag the modules you are keeping in the order you want, if you haven't already done so, and then add any module (it will be added to the bottom).

By doing this, the "Save" and "Cancel" buttons appear again.

Delete the module you just added and then click the "Save" button.

Complete your Modules

To enter information into any module, click on the "edit" button.

1. Enter a title for your module, and a sub-title too if you like

2. Enter your data in the text box

3. Add a picture from your computer

4. When finished click on "Save" (top or bottom of module)

As you finish each module, be sure to click the Save button for that module.

Publish your Lens

And finally, once you are finished all the modules in your lens, click on Publish!

The "Publish" button is on the top and bottom right side of the page.

Quick Tips

  1. Look at other Lenses to see what they have done for ideas
  2. Adding Tags (keywords) to your Lens increases the chance of others finding your Lens
  3. If you sell several different products, make a lens for each product line
  4. Adding your Lens to related Groups will increase traffic to your Lens and Lensrank
  5. Is your lens a little plain? Would you like to dress it up with some really nice images?I have a GIF Sharing thread on eBay Canada, a collection of images I have saved from all over. Help yourself. But, please do not direct link, if you see some you like, copy them to your computer, thank you.

Guestbook Feedback

ebay-grandma

So many instructional lenses make it sound almost imparative that we use a variety of modules and include the Discovery option. Good to hear a respected lensmaster say it's OK to skip this on a lens.
