Squidoo Tips - Lensrolling & Rating a Lens
Ranked #5,803 in Squidoo Community, #367,857 overall
Welcome to My Squidoo Tips
This Squidoo Tips lens will talk about how to lensroll and how to rate a lens. I remember when I first started out here on Squidoo (yes this was a few years back), even though I looked all over (honest, I really, really did LOL), I couldn't find out how to do the simple task of lensrolling, let alone what it was and what the heck it did!
Note: The Lensroll 'smiley face' button and optional lensroll sidebar have been eliminated on May 23, 2011.

How to Add a Lens to your Lensroll
Lensrolling is a way to create your own personal lens network. You can list your friends' lenses, relevant lenses on your topic, or even link to other lenses of your own on one of your lenses.
On the right side of a lens page there is a section called "awelldressedbullet Recommends...." just under "Related Topics". When you lensroll a lens, this is where the lens link ends up.
- First, you must be signed into Squidoo.
- Go to the lens you want to add to your lensroll.
- When you are on that lens, look at the top of the lens page (just under the lens title) and you will see a line of icons.
- Click on the yellow smiley Lensroll icon and follow the prompts (you will be asked which lens of yours you want to add this to).

Lens you Lensrolled not showing?
- Click on "Edit" to open your lens workshop
- Glance down under "Lensroll" (right side of page)
- Click on the side arrow to open this up and you should see the lens you lensrolled is actually there at the bottom of the list

- Click on the orange "Publish" button (of the top page of the lens)
- Click on "View Lens" and you will see that the lens you lensrolled is now showing on yours.

How to Rate a Lens
If you enjoy a lens, let the author know by rating their lens. You could have found it interesting, funny, or it's just so pretty.

1. You have to be signed in to rate a lens.
2. Look at the top of the lens page (just under the lens title) and you will see a line of icons.
3. Click on the thumb icon and you will see the number increase by one.
You can remove a thumbs up at any time, but just clicking on the thumb icon again.
Don't Run Off!
There is an intermittent glitch on Squidoo that when you leave a lens too quickly, any ratings you leave, such as Thumbs Up or Favorite It, may not stick.
To prevent this is easy!
After you rate or favorite a lens, be sure to refresh the page to make sure your settings are showing before you leave the lens page.

Quick Tips
Visit other Lenses that are related to your lens(es) or that are of interest to you.- If you like their lens after you rate the lens, leave a Guestbook (Reader Feedback) entry. Do be subtle, don't be spammy.
- You accomplish two things, you are supporting a fellow Squidoo'er and acknowledging their efforts and you are receiving a little bit of 'advertising'.
- Did you know that if you include a link to an off Squidoo site in your comments, many lensmasters won't approve the comment.
- If you don't see your entry right away, don't leave another entry. Many lensmasters have their settings to approve entries first.
Have a Question?
Why not drop by SquidU?If you have a question, are having problems, or heck, you may just want to meet some fellow lensmasters to chat, there's always a very friendly and helpful Squid or Squidette around.

- Does Lensrolling your own lenses provide backlinks? Also does adding My Lenses to a Lens provide backlinks? I have a bunch of lenses that are Jewelry sales pages so I have been lensrolling them together.

- Good basic information. I understand that what you have listed in the lensroll gives additional keywords for Google to index. Don't lensroll off-topic lenses to yours or it will confuse Google.

- You know Kathy, I've noticed too that sometimes, now with the likes, if I refresh the page like I used to do to get the stars to stick, that the thumb appears to go away and I've got to click it back on!

- Hi! I just created a lens and saw a great lens to lensroll on it, but it wasn't in my lists of sites to roll it to. The site is finished and published, is there a waiting time before I can start a lensroll on it?
