Welcome to My Squidoo Tips 4

This Squidoo Tip lens will deal with saving all your hard work! Be sure to save your lens by creating a back up copy, on a regular basis.

Save your Lens - XML

Once you are finished your Lens, be sure to save it! It only takes a couple of minutes of your time!

This includes your Groups too!

1. In your workshop, look over to the bottom right of the navigation bar, and click on the side arrow to open up "Export".

2. Click on the orange "Export" button

3. On the File Download box that will pop up, click on "Save"

4. I recommend that you save this in a Squidoo Lenses folder

5. Leave the filename the same

6. Click on Save

You have now saved an XML file of your Lens.

Save Your Lens - HTML

To save your Lens in HTML format, you can do this two ways.

I use Internet Explorer, if you use another browser, the print screens won't be the same, but look for something similar.

1. On your browser, click on "File" (top left of page)

2. Select "Save As", this will bring up a Save Web Page box.

3. I recommend that you save this in a Squidoo Lenses folder

4. Leave the filename the same

You now have two choices:

If you want to save both the HTML file as well as all the other files (i.e. images, video's etc), follow Step 5-A.

If you only want to save the HTML file, follow Step 5-B.

5-A. Make sure that the "save as type" shows "Web Page, complete

5-B. Make sure that the "save as type" shows "Web Page, HTML only"

7. Click "Save"

You have now saved an HTML file or an HTML file as well as ALL the files on your lens (i.e. images, video files, every file on that page) created in a sub-folder.

Quick Tips

When you first create your lens, be sure to save it right away. And then every time you make a revision to your lens, save it again.

Another tip if you are preparing a long text type module. Be sure to compose and save it first in another document; Word, Works, Notepad etc. Then copy it into the text module. If there are any problems on Squidoo, you don't want to lose all your work!

My question is: Wouldn't saving all of my lenses take up a lot of space on my computer?
I'll check back for the answer at another time! - Thanks!

P.S. How are you?

With the new standards of Squidoo coming up, this lens will provide worried affiliate marketers with a good "back up" plan... Thanks.

I think it would be which ever way the lensmaster is more used to; most will use the XML method as it is easier. At this time, there is no "system" in place on Squidoo to upload these files back onto Squidoo in the event of disaster, maybe in the future? But it sure is nice to have the lens information saved and available to at least rebuild the lens (using copy and paste), especially for those lenses that we have a lot put into. Good idea to back up all our hard work. But what are the advantages of one method over another? And if disaster strikes, how would we use our backup files to restore our lenses?
