What Makes a Concert Memorable to You?

Before going on with my experiences and preferences, I'd like to know what you enjoy the most about the concert-going experience and what you think makes some events more memorable than others.

Two words "Dave Matthews". If you haven't seen them live you are missing out. The jamming is unbelievable, the musicianship, next to none other.

I think that it really depends on who is playing, where they are playing, are they a "current" band or have they been making music for 20 or 30 years?

With some musicians you want them to go off and do their own thing and mix it up a bit while others you want to recreate a feeling or emotion that you had the first time you heard the song or if it meant something special to you.

Probably the only concerts that I didn't enjoy were for ones where I didn't really like the band or musician but the person or people that I went with did.

I do really miss many of the concerts of the 70's where you would have a top name play in either a very, very small club or University room. Yes, a University room - I saw many great bands in the music department of a few colleges & universities where you could only fit 75 - 90 people tops.
Although large venues are good, I prefer the smaller, more intimate spaces where the musicians feel that they can experiment and not always have to play their "hits" unless they feel like then - then they are exceptionally good.

I like to know that the artist can really perform like the original recording, that the vocals and instrumentals are for real, but it's good also when they change things around a bit. It's this and also the interraction with the audience and the way that they set the mood that makes a concert great.
