My Top 10 FarmVille Tips

Ranked #4,528 in Games, #195,663 overall

I am a mid-western mom who loves FarmVille on Facebook. It started as fun, but now I am obsessed with improving my farm and creating a virtual oasis of crops, French Villas, Irish Castles and roads to nowhere.

In playing FarmVille I've discovered some great tips to improve my farm and make the game more enjoyable. So here are my Top 10 Tips for having the best Farmville experience ever! Have fun!

FarmVille Tip #1: Fencing in your Mini-Me Farmer.

You might notice a lot of your neighbors have a fence around their Mini-Me farm character. There is a good reason for this. By fencing her in you save valuable time. If she (or he) is free to wander she'll take forever walking to harvest trees and farm animals.

You can fence in your Mini-Me Farmer with hay bales, fencing or walls. You can create a large or small area for her.

Important tip! You must fence in your Mini-Me Farmer while she is in the "Home" position. You can find this position by clicking on the "Play" tab while in FarmVille. But remember, your Mini-me farmers position will change a bit when you enlarge your farm so you will have to change her fenced in area as you grow your farm.

As you can see in the photo I've created an English Garden for my Mini-Me Farmer to reside!

FarmVille Tip #2: Getting the most out of your Chicken Coop.

One of the first things that you are going to want to buy is a Chicken Coop. It only costs 5,000 coins, but you can only but one. The initial coop has room for 20 chickens. You can then enlarge to coop up to 40, then 60 chickens. You can enlarge the coop by asking your friends for help. If you can't get enough friends to help out you are given the option to use FarmVille Cash to finish the job.

There are four different types of chickens you can get on FarmVille:

White Chicken: Lays White Mystery Eggs and each egg sells for 8 coins.
Brown Chicken: Lays Brown Uncommon Mystery Eggs and each egg sells for 16 coins.
Black Chicken: Lays Black Rare Mystery Eggs and each egg sells for 32 coins.
Golden Chicken: Lays Treasured Golden Mystery Eggs and each egg sells for 64 coins.

Keep the best chickens in your coop. For example if you have 60 white chickens and get a golden chicken remove a white chicken and add the golden chicken. Your ultimate goal is to get 60 golden chickens in your coop. Then you and your neighbors will have the best chance to find a Treasured Golden Mystery Egg!

FarmVille Tip #3: Do the math when you buy seeds.

You can definitely get more points if you carefully pick out your crops.

Example #1: At night I always pick 8 or 12 hour crops so that they will be ready to harvest in the morning.

Example #2: Pick crops that make the most money. For instance, Wheat takes 3 days and will make you an 80 coin profit. Artichokes take 4 days but will make you a 134 coin profit. While those extra 54 coins might seem like a lot, unless you plan on being away from your computer it's better to use shorter timed crops and harvest daily.

Example #2: If I know I am going to be home all day I like to do Strawberries for 12 hours (every 4 hours). This brings me in a 100 coin profit per plot over those 12 hours.

Bottom line...it pays to do a little math!

FarmVille Tip #4: Adpot all the animals you can.

When you see in your Facebook news feed that someone has posted an animal snap it up! Even if you don't have a lot of room for animals you can turn around and sell that animal for coins. Bulls for example will bring in 150 each. Not bad when you are just starting out and need a little cash.

FarmVille Tip #5: Get lots of loot.

I love FarmVille loot! This is an easy tip. Every morning I take about 5 minutes to go back over my news feed and get all the goodies that people posted the night before. Now I know that sometimes things like the Treasured Golden Eggs are gone but sometimes they're not. You can also snag stuff like Holiday gifts, animals, flowers, building materials and fuel (which you will need).

So if you're away from your computer for a few hours or overnight be sure and look for loot that's just looking for a home!

FarmVille Tip #6: Hay Bales

FarmVille Hay Bales are awesome! They come in a rainbow of colors and have tons of uses. Here are some great things to do with your Hay Bales:

1) Get experience points. The gold hay bale only costs 100 coins but you get 5 XP (experience points). So if you have a lot of coins you can get to the next level pretty quickly by buying hay bales.

2) Create a staircase. Stacking hay bales diagonally will give the 3-D illusion of steps. This is a fun way to create a hill. You can do this with hedges too (see photo).

3) Create a road with gray or black hay bales and then use the white hay bales for lines.

3) Create a river with blue hay bales.

4) Use multi-colored hay bales to create elaborate designs. You'd be surprised to see the amazing things that people create with FarmVille!

FarmVille Tip #7: Flowers

I love getting flowers on FarmVille. They brighten up your farm and you can create some neat designs.

You can get flowers from your neighbors on your news feed and from your Garden Shed. The Garden Shed cost 30,000 coins and once you own it you'll get more flowers when you harvest them off your farm. You can store up to 30 bunches in your Garden Shed and share them with your friends.

Important tip! Once you have flowers on your farm you can't get rid of them until they droop in two weeks. So if you add hundreds of bunches you can move them around but are stuck with them for two weeks!

FarmVille Tip #8: Be a good FarmVille neighbor.

FarmVille is a great way to interact with your friends on Facebook. I really enjoying playing with a large group of people. The key to being a good FarmVille neighbor is sending loot that people need (like building supplies). Also when you are asked to post ribbons, fuel and animals post away! Your neighbors will love benefiting from your loot.

FarmVille Tip #9: Buildings

Buildings are an important part of you farm. They also house chickens, cows, horses and can be used for storage. They are great for getting animals out of your way too. Buy a new Dairy Barn every time you fill one up (20 cows) so that your cows don't take up valuable real estate. You can also expand your chicken coop and barns with the help of your friends.

Another form of buildings are ones that need materials to be built. These include the Horse Stable and right now the Maison. You can ask your friends to send you the materials to complete these building. They are a lot fun to build!

Farmville Tip #10: Create a work of art.

You can create amazing works of art on FarmVille. The "Official" FarmVille Facebook Fan Page even runs a weekly contest. I'm not there yet but I am having fun experimenting. Below is a cool YouTube video that shows more of what you can design on FarmVille.
