My 10 favorite movies from the 80s

A lot of movies that came out in the 80s that are still very enjoyable today. These are my favorite 80s movies, mostly from when I was growing up in the 80s. Many wonder why I left a certain movie off my list and my answer is there are so many good movies from the 80s and it's hard to have a list of only 10. You can also make your own list of favorite 80s movies on Squidoo if you disagree.

I like to rent 80s movies on Netflix as there are still some I have not seen. Netflix has a lot of 80s movies you can watch instantly over the internet as well, my favorite feature of Netflix. :)

The Princess Bride

The Princess Bride is my favorite movie from the 80s (actually, it's my favorite movie period.) It has fantasy, comedy, romance, and action! Buttercup falls in love with farm boy Westley who leaves for awhile and comes back as the Dread Pirate Roberts. However, she is supposed to be marrying Prince Humperdink.... she gets kidnapped, and the movie goes on with swordfighting, Rodents of Unusual Size, and true love. It always surprises me when someone says they haven't seen the movie or that they hated the movie. Luckily I married someone whose also loves this movie.

The best thing about the movie is the dialogue. It's just so good.

The Karate Kid was awesome! Mr. Miyagi was very cool and mysterious getting Daniel to do chores that taught him Karate. I was very sad when I learned that Pat Morita, the actor who plays Mr. Miyagi passed away in 2005. This movie inspired me to take Karate lessons, however I did not get past orange belt.

Dirty Dancing

Dirty Dancing was a cool love story... Patrick Swazye being the bad boy helped this movie. Good acting, writing and chemistry. But you've seen it, right?

The Dirty Dancing soundtrack is one of my favorite CDs.

Gremlins

Gremlins seem like they would be cool pets, if only they didn't turn evil! Cute little Gizmo sure had a lot of self-restraint compared to the other mogwai that turned into gremlins. But it would be too easy to accidently spill water on him. I think a dog is a much safer pet.

Top Gun

Tom Cruise was so cool in the 80s and of course so was this movie. Just don't think about McCain using the name "Maverick" or Tom Cruise jumping on Oprah's couch when watching this movie.

Ghostbusters

I remember Ghostbusters being a big hit in the 80s. I loved the movie, the song, and the cartoon with Slimer. I was pretty creeped out when Dana became possesed by Zuul and said "Dana's not in here anymore, only Zuul."

Back to the Future

All 3 Back to the future movies are good, but the first one was the best. Michael J. Fox went back in time to the fifties where his parents met, but he kind of screwed it up and had to fix the past so the future wouldn't change for the worst.

This movie is where we get the saying 'Hello McFly' from. I actually hate it when people say that. :)

Sixteen Candles

In the 80s I was a sucker for Molly Ringwald movies so I have to put one in my list of top ten 80s movies. In this movie, Samantha (Molly Ringwald) had a crush on the cool guy Jake Ryan. My husband told me people used to call her "Molly Ringworm" and I didn't know that.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off

I loved the system Ferris had to make it sound like he was snoring away in his room while he was gone. That was the coolest thing about the movie to me. That, and skipping school! Wish I could take a day off like that from work.

"Save Ferris"

People thought Ferris was really sick and started the saying "Save Ferris."

Teen Wolf

I loved Teen Wolf because Michael J. Fox was in it and it was also an interesting movie.

I don't even remember if Teen Wolf Too is any good or if I even watched it! I remember thinking it doesn't have Michael J. Fox in it so I don't care. :)

I can't seem to find Teen Wolf DVD by itself without the sequel. Oh well, it's cheap.

"Give Me a Keg of Beer"

Imagine being underage and wanting to buy beer... being a teen wolf came in pretty handy where he could flash his red eyes and get what he wanted.

More than 10

I forgot a few movies in my top ten 80s movies at first, so here's a couple more I liked that I can't leave off this list.

The Lost Boys

When I created this list I forgot to put The Lost Boys on it which was one of my favorite movies! I just haven't watched it in a really long time but it's my favorite vampire movie.

I was raising my children in the 80's so there are a lot of good memories attached to these movies. The Princess Bride is my favorite movie also. I sort of wonder about a person who doesn't like it, don't you? Great lens, thanks!

Great lens with some great 80s movies. I'd find it difficult to stick to just 10 favourites from the 80s but you've chosen many of the films I would pick.
