Fun lens. Love all 80's films, Goonies and Stand By Me deserve a mention too!
  • sadie-heldberg Apr 18, 2012 @ 5:47 pm | delete
How I wish they made film the way they used to, I loved and watched many of these films multiple times. Gizmo is the cutest character that has ever rocked the silver screen it’s undisputable in my mind. The satire “The Princess Bride” is just plain fabulous and there really is no other way to express the hysterical film. I have a colleague who works with me at Dish, after work on Fridays we get together for a movie night. 80’s movies are usually our theme, which is readily available from my blockbuster @Home subscription. I love being able to live stream directly to the huge TV on the wall it is easy and available whenever we are ready to get started with our popcorn. I think the reason movies back then were so good is that they did have to rely on storytelling and so that is why I keep going back.

  • writergrey Jan 11, 2012 @ 12:23 pm | delete
Ferris Bueller has developed a real following among people too young to have seen it first time - way to go!
  • HartmanSteven Dec 6, 2011 @ 12:46 pm | delete
Ghostbusters is definitely one of the best but I might have to find room in the top 10 for Major League. I did a lens on Ghostbusters and would love for everyone to check it out!

Gremlins is a classic, the sequel I didn't enjoy as much.
  • Rantsand Nov 25, 2011 @ 9:55 am | delete
LOl ok, thanks for this. It seems like ever year they come out with more movies than the year before so it's really hard to go back and watch those movies from 30 years ago. Nevertheless, this was a nice tri down memory lane. The Princess Bride, and Ferris Bueller's Day off... timeless as the day they were made. :-)
  • dvdmoviereviews Nov 24, 2011 @ 5:02 pm | delete

  • SudokuNut Nov 19, 2011 @ 10:59 pm | delete
I think I might be the last person alive not to have seen Ferris Bueller's Day Off...must rectify that soon! This is a great selection and like the other comments here I can think of so many more too. The 80's was a fun time for movies.

  • JCEverett Jun 16, 2011 @ 9:27 pm | delete
Eighties femme fatale: Kathleen Turner in Body Heat love that movie. Peter O'toole's best role is in my opinion from the eighties The Stuntman. Top Five Tome Hanks movie includes Big. I saw Bull Durham for the first time a year or two ago fell in love with it. A Christmas Story will always have a special place in my heart when it taught me never to lick a cold pole. One of the most inventive and entertaining movies from Dustin Hoffman is Tootsie. This is just to name a few of my favorites. I enjoyed your post thank you for sharing.

  • photofk3 Jan 21, 2011 @ 10:51 am | delete

  • hunksparrow Dec 15, 2010 @ 11:42 am | delete
Great list. You are right, it is tough to pick 10 because there are so many classics from the 80's i.e. Star Wars, E.T., Indiana Jones, Goonies. Had fun reading your lens.
  • La-Z-i Nov 19, 2010 @ 3:53 pm | delete
Breakfast Club was a good flick, but Pretty In Pink was better and it had Harry Dean Stanton!! Your list was pretty accurate, though I would have included The Goonies and Rocky 4 in there...Back To The Future is definitely my # 1. How else would we know what a giggowat is! :)
  • charder Oct 25, 2010 @ 11:38 am | delete

  • Oct 18, 2010 @ 11:52 pm | delete
I'm not sure if it was the movies or just the era, but the 80's were something special. Dirty dancing is still one of my favorite movies.
  • WorldVisionary Oct 17, 2010 @ 11:01 am | delete
This was like a trip down memory lane - really fun!
  • Grumpy-Fett Sep 28, 2010 @ 9:49 pm | delete
I don't think I could choose my favorite. Maybe Back to the future? Great lens!
  • italianizeyourself Sep 24, 2010 @ 10:49 am | delete
Teen Wolf was awesome. Teen Wolf Too was a little painful though. The "impromptu" choreographed dance scene made it that much worse. The 80s definitely put out some classics. Great list.
  • Blonde_Blythe Sep 13, 2010 @ 4:29 pm | delete
Pretty in Pink is my favorite '80s movie (love that Duckie!) but Sixteen Candles runs a close second! :)
  • jo9091 Sep 4, 2010 @ 4:39 pm | delete
great lens it makes me want to watch old movies
  • Haddonfield04 Aug 1, 2010 @ 9:58 am | delete
Well there were literally hundreds that were fantastic that came out of the 80's. To list 10 is nuts. You should have like a top 50 or something. Terminator, Splash, Footloose, Youngblood, Real Genius, The Money Pit, Airplane, National Lampoons, Beverly Hills Cop, Aliens, ect. There's just too many top 10's. I wouldn't call Teen Wolf a top 10 though. Most of your selections are sci-fi. Need some more variety. But all great movies.
  • Rose4u Jul 3, 2010 @ 4:02 pm | delete
I love movies from the 80s, Dirty Dancing is one of my favorite ones :)

For me the best movie was,is and will always be Dirty dancing! It had something particularly wonderful in it, something that makes you remember the movie for ever :)!!! Great lens
  • Dreadmoc Nov 25, 2009 @ 3:25 am | delete
The 80's in fact yielded the best movies! Unless this is a list of comedies, I'd have to add Predator, The Terminator and every other Arnold movie to the list. I mean, come on, Conan was classic. Also you left out Ruthless People! Shame on you. The Dream Team was side splitting, and Rocky Three and Four had awsome soundtracks. Don't forget Lethal Weapon and Dirty Harry. Return of the Jedi was also and 80's movie. Indiana Jones! Well you get the point. Edit this lens to be a top 100 list of greatest movies of all time and 99% of them will still be 80's!

    Monster Squad
    Goonies
    They Live
    Big Trouble in Little China
    Cloak and Dagger
    The Squeeze
    The Color of Money
and on and on and on...I love movies!
  • momto4 Aug 31, 2009 @ 3:55 pm | delete

  • tonia1 Jul 15, 2009 @ 6:07 pm | delete
Hey what about "LITTLE DARLINGS", "BAD NEWS BEARS" "PRETTY IN PINK" THERE IS ANOTHER ONE WHERE A GIRL PRETENDS TO BE OLDER THAN SHE REALLY IS AND IT STARED REX SMITH THAT WAS SOOO GOOD AND ANOTHER ONE WHERE A GIRL PRETENDS TO BE A GUY TO DO SOME STORY AT A HIGH SCHOOL. I THINK ONE WAS CALLED THE LOST BOYS??? IT STARED A BUNCH OF PEOPLE, TOM CRUISE, RALPH MACHIO, DIANE LANE, PATRICK SWAYZE, EMILIO ESTEVEZ-ABOUT GREASERS AND GANGS-SOMEONE WAS CALLED "PONYBOY" REALLY GOOD!! OH I LOVE THE 80'S!!!!

Great lens with some great 80s movies. I'd find it difficult to stick to just 10 favourites from the 80s but you've chosen many of the films I would pick.

  • poutine Dec 7, 2008 @ 8:45 am | delete

  • enslavedbyfaeries Aug 22, 2008 @ 10:40 am | delete
The Princess Bride is a favorite at our house, -my girls and I love it! All of these choices are fun and definitely take you back to the days when our hair big and the clothes were... on second thought, I'm not sure I'm willing to go back there right now. :)
  • kiwisoutback Jul 28, 2008 @ 7:13 pm | delete
I loved Ghostbusters, especially the 2nd one. Gremlins was cool, too...they don't make brainless, original movies like that anymore, do they?
  • Irenemaria Jun 14, 2008 @ 3:07 pm | delete
So many years has passes since these movies were new. Thank you for the reminder!
  • EverythingMouse Mar 11, 2008 @ 10:12 pm | delete
Has to be Back To The Future. I watched it last week - my children saw it for the first time and really loved it.
