My Weird Collection
My Weird Collection of Masks, Pictures, Figurines and Ornaments
I've always had a fascination for arts and crafts, fantasy and oddities
- I was considered to be mildly ghoulish when I was a child and my taste has developed rather than receded.
I must be a weirdo myself to have gathered round me such an odd collection of weird masks, pictures, ornaments and figurines and I'm going to show you some of the best ones. If you think they are a bit eerie, blame the craftsmen, not me! But one way or another, you must admit they are very collectable.
Don't forget to take the poll, and do the quiz about Arts and Crafts.
I bought the oriental mask in this picture very cheaply at a car boot sale. It reminds me a bit of the Mexican skull at the British Museum.
My Collection of Weird Things Started Early
I had a skeleton key ring when I was ten

We found this Chinese Dragon mask in a rubbish skip and had to give him a good clean-up before he could grace our wall

Obsidian Mexican Figurine Inlaid with Semi-Precious Stones
- a Mayan Deity

This Mayan Figurine was a recent precious gift from someone who knew how much we like our weird masks and ornaments.
It is a form of stone marquetry, intricately inlaid with semi-precious stones, and finished off so smoothly that you can barely feel the joins when you run your finger over it. The sparkle is iron pyrites (fool's gold).
Wooden Indonesian dragon
This Wooden Indonesian Dragon Hangs in My Hall

Unfortunately, our balsam wood painted Indonesian dragon is hanging high up from the ceiling, so that it is difficult to see anything except his underside. I bought it in a London Market

This artist specializes in fantasy and there are some
excellent works of fantasy art on his website
Bronze and Turquoise Metal Inca Spear
This Bronze and Turquoise Metal Inca Spear is very light and small
I picked up this light-weight Metal Inca Spear wall ornament from a car boot sale - I love it so much, I can't imagine why someone wanted to get rid of it.
Bronze and Blue Metal Inca Mask
Light-Weight Small Bronze and Blue Metal Inca Mask
This Bronze and Blue Metal Inca Mask came from the same car boot sale as the mask above. It hangs on a wall opposite a door, so I can see and admire it every time I pass through the door.
Bronze Aztec Man
This Bronze Aztec Man is quite a heavy wall ornament
I bought this small Bronze Aztec man from a London car boot sale and he, too, hangs opposite a doorway, so that I can see him whenever I pass through.
I've used this Aztec man ornament as the basis for a T-Shirt design in my new Zazzle shop, opened in August 2011.
I added some flames coming out of his mouth and eyes, and some body spikes all over, to turn him into a fire-breathing demon. Have a look:

Black and Gold Aztec Mask
This Black and Gold Aztec Mask is made of clay
This black and gold Aztek mask was a present brought back from Mexico.
The black glazed clay is slightly shiny and the mask looks distinctly ominous in our dark hall.
Beswick Gryphon
Part of a Collectible set of china figurines

This Gryphon is part of a set of figurines from the Beswick "Alice" Series. I bought him off eBay.
It is a bit fragile, so needs to be handled with care
Royal Doulton under licence from Beswick Designer: Albert Hallam 3.15", 8.3 cm

Doggy Film Crew
Very Detailed Hand Painted Coldcast Figurines

I bought these little doggies at a car boot sale. I thought my son-in-law would like them, as he works at the BBC, but he and my daughter thought they were kitch - so what's wrong with kitch? Well, I like them - they make me laugh!
They are a work of art in their own way and appear to represent a Hollywood studio in the 1920's (maybe a cartoon of that era?)

Oil Painting - One Day at a Time

One Day at a Time by John Parker - a bit depressing, but I suppose someone emerging from Alcoholics Anonymous and on the road to recovery might well be interested

Oil Painting - The Road to Hell
By John Parker
The Road to Hell by John Parker shows a man in Nazi uniform bearing the letters SS , carrying a cross into the flames of hell.
The artist states that it depicts the period at the end of World War II when the Catholic Church helped high ranking Nazi officers to escape from any punishment for their war crimes by assisting them, via the Vatican, to escape to South America. He points out that The Vatican, presumably with the Pope's knowledge, but certainly at high level, assisted these war criminals by supplying them with travel tickets, false travel documents and identities and that no doubt this was paid for with assets stolen from the holocaust victims. And, he says, the Nazis would not just have turned up at the Vatican knocking at their door and carrying a bag of gold and jewellery - there must have been preliminary meetings and discussions first, when all this would have been deliberately set up and palms were crossed with silver and gold.
The artist's anger at this state of affairs prompted him to paint this fiery picture.
