My claim to fame is that I eventually became what I wanted to be, an artist. I also had my picture taken with America's Got Talent 2011 winner, Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. I made a lens about it.

Despite knowing more about my rare illness than my doctors do, I am alive, I have beat the odds and I have survived. Now with advancements in treatments I hope that I will remain so for many more years to come. I am determined, I am stubborn, and I am a fighter. It is my claim to fame.

For 20+ years my ex-husband claimed to fly the F111 during the Lybian invsin during 1986. Had a painting of the mission commissiond. Went to my son's school in 2004, in full USAF military and gave a detailed cccount fo the invasion. In December 2011 he admitted it was all a lie. Can anything legal be done?

(UK TV) I was a "reporter" for keith Cheguin on Cheguin checks it out! And got to interview Margaret thatcher.UK Prime Minister - aka the Iron Lady! (wonder if we can get the video on to DVD?...now that would be funny!) ..I sat in the School Libary in scotland and spoke to an empty chair, but on the TV show it looked like I was actually interviewing her! I was asking her about why politics were not taught in school, if it meant the next generation grew up not knowing about who was who or who to vote for or even why to vote?....yeah a lot changed from that interview...lol...

My claim to fame is that I have a famous cousin. Her name is Jessica Watson and she is currently the YOUNGEST person in the world, (she was 16 years old at the time she started and ended her voyage) to sail non stop and unassisted around the world. I made a lens about her. Its called True Spirit Review - True Spirit being the title of her book.

Mine is being notoriously aggressive about getting the world to switch to renewable energy to power our societies. I will doggedly fight for this cause until I am unable to fight for anything! My dream is to see the human race come to the conclusion that we have no choice and we will not survive unless we change. I hope you and you gracious wife Deb are well and happy Tony. See you around the galaxy...

Well, I have 2 claims to fame. One is that I was born in Japan. Since I am pretty fair skinned it seems to really intrigue people. But the other one is better. My real claim is that Elvis Presley and yes, Lisa Marie too, are my cousins. Elvis and I have the same great great grandparents on our fathers' sides. Just made a lens about that too. (The Best Elvis Presley Songs). So there you go....maybe someday I'll have a claim that I had something to do with instead of accidents of birth:)
    Love reading these, great idea!

My claim to fame right now is taking my MA. I went back to school when I was 44 and finished 3 years later (Two BA's one in psychology and the other in Developing Learning).. now I'm taking my MA in Alternative Education. (I'm ancient now!).. I believe that education doesn't have an age attached!

My heroes are people who study at an older age (much older than I did).. my aunt went back to school when she was in her 60's! And when I was in college (when I was younger) there was an 80 year old lady there studying! What an inspiration!

Fascinating lens. My own claim is pretty minor, but here goes; apart from having personally trodden on the foot of the 4th Baron Wedgwood (accidentally, even if I am opposed to hereditary aristocracy), I am the last person actually to have been born in one of the houses built for his workers at Etruria in Stoke on Trent by Josiah Wedgwood, founder of the famous pottery. Other families had kids later but they were all born in the maternity hospital, and the houses were demolished in the 1970s and 80s.

I have two Claims to Fame:
    1. I received an e-mail from THE Ann Rice, author of all of the vampire novels. I had e-mailed her official website, to pan one of her novels. To my amazement within a couple of hours, I received an e-mail from Ms. Rice, chastising me for being mean spirited and ungenerous, and explaining why she disagreed with my opinion of her book! I printed out her e-mail, framed it and hung it over my desk.
    2. I, along with about ten other people, saw Barack Obama from across the street and we even got to exchange a few words with him, when he visited a charity ministry in my hometown. The location was a closely guarded secret, and I just happened to be in the right place at the right time. This was shortly before the election, but I had no doubt I'd just seen a President of the United States!

My Great, Great, Great? Grandfather, (Harry Burton) was the photographer on Howard Carters expedition and discovery of Tutankhamen's tomb in 1922. His photographs of the excavation were the first ever published.
I met Princess Anne when she came to see my parents nursing home business about 15 years ago.
Frank Bruno the famous UK heavyweight boxer and Jimmy Savile, presenter and entertainer have run past me in the Great Eastern Run and waved, I was about 12.
And I once ignored famous UK pop band Five when I saw them at London Zoo, I'm not a big fan of pop.

While in my mid-thirties I finally went to college. Music was my major. Leon McAuliff, of Country and Western music fame, joined the teaching staff. Getting to know him, having conversations with him, and actually playing music with him was very special for me.

My Hats For Homeless project got the attention of a Tulsa World reporter, who did an article on me. My photo was included in the article. That article was highlighted in an internet crochet magazine which received national attention.

Playing music and crocheting are two of my favorite pastimes, so both of these are great memories for me.

Tony, it is so thoughtful of you to create this lens for us. Thank you.

My claim to fame is I gathered my mother's essays into a self-published book. I edited, arranged and added photos to her work. The book, My Flint Hills Childhood: Growing up in 1930s Kansas by Gail Lee Martin, won the 2010 Kansas History Book Award.
Next year, we'll submit her second book, Clyde Owen Martin: Family Memories of His Life and Times. Now I'm working on two more books about family (great-great grandfather who survived the Civil War prison Andersonville and a great-aunt who was a missionary in Alaska in the 1940s). My 85 year old mother helps me with these, finding the family photos and letters.

My claim to fame is being a squid. I am on enough "famous walls" that, as we say in the trade, give me anything, but don't give me the plaque!

Blessed so often it could keep me awake all night counting, I am a happy, dysto-dancing (not a typo, i.e. meaning I have dystonia and love dance) Squidizen, exercising my arts, enjoying my Squiddish friends.

The only real stretch remaining on my youthful (college era) bucket list was seeing the earth from outer space with my own eyes. If I can lay hands on the dough, I am going. This visual and spiritual perspective is real now in 2010.

Any benefactors out there? Imagine seeing it!

So kind of you to invite me along, so kind of you, poddys, to make this tremendous lens, so kind of you to MAKE ME FAMOUS should I stake a worthy claim.
  • grandma_deal Feb 13, 2011 @ 8:36 am | delete

Don't know if this counts but, My claim is that I am related ( by Marriage) to Mavis Staples from the Staple singers. I just have to claim this because when I was a little girl I loved the song " I'll take you there". When I grew up and married my husband he brought me to the USA. I met his parents and his father told me that he was related to Mavis. I was beside myself! SO naturally I also took the claim of being related to her. LOL!!!!!

I like to tease my kids and say "I sang for the Pope"...and I did...only it was with hundreds of other high school choir students (this was in the mid 80s) ...not like it was a solo act or anything ;o) but it's still funny to say to them once and a while.

Two of my multi-great grandfathers were among the co-founders of Newark, New Jersey. Robert Kitchell and Abraham Pierson. Abraham Pierson apparently came up with the name itself according to Wikipedia.

Robert Kitchell was born in Hayes, Kent, located a few miles from where I live today. One of the families the Kitchells married into, the Bruins, can be traced back to Charlemagne and is found in Burke's Peerage.

I went to high school with comedian Eric Edwards. On IMBD he's listed as Eric Edwards (I)

Well, I'm not famous myself for anything, but I have met a lot of famous people & I'm related to one...
    1) Related to Olympian Jesse Owens (he's like a 5th cousin on my dad's side of the family)
    2) Met Olympic Sprinter Butch Reynolds in a grocery store when I was young (he was the fastest man in the world before Olympians Michael Johnson & Usain Bolt)
    3) Had the legendary Little Richard attend my church once when I was there (apparently he came every so often, but only once when I was there; one of my friends/old classmates actually got to pray with him; that man wears a LOT of makeup)
    4) Met Jenny Humphreys/Taylor Momsen from the show Gossip Girl & the band The Pretty Reckless (her band opened for The Veronicas at a concert I went to- ran into her in the bathroom & chatted with her for a bit; did NOT know who she was when I met her, LOL)
    5) Met Senator & former astronaut John Glenn at my college graduation last year (I said a little bit, but got starstruck for some odd reason, LOL- I could have asked for a picture or something!)

That's it for now. I have some other celebs I'd like to meet, and I'd love for my Zazzle work and blogs to become famous, but I myself don't want to be famous, LOL.

My claim to fame is that my husband and myself were extras in an independent movie called Mind Forest. We played witches livingi n the 1600's. He actually has a bigger part than I did. The star of our movie went on to greater fame....she is Lauren Maher and she plays Scarlet in all the Pirates of the Caribbean Movies. Google Mind Forest and you should be able to find a trailer to watch.

I also had an imaginery cocktail date with Mikhail Baryshnikov. You'll have to wait for the lens on that story to be crreated.

Other than that, I am busy creating fame for myself right here at Squidoo.

My claim to fame is that I went to school with Dan and Dave Florek. Both are actors who have been in numerous films and commercials.

When I was a junior in high school Dan was a senior and Dave was a sophomore. I have a great photo of Dan playing in the rock 'n roll band he was in back then. I was quite the 'groupie' and would love to post it on his website, if he has one...it's really funny!

Dan is on the series 'Law & Order' he's captain Donald Cragen. I liked him in the 'Flintstones' movie, he was Mr. Slate in that.

Dave was a cop in 'Ghost Busters'...and not too long ago was in the series CSI where he played an old man. I saw him on a food commercial where he asks, 'Wuddya fishin' for?' and he was Coach Smiley on the show 'Fresh Prince of Belair'.

Anyway, they both have done lots of acting and you can Google them. They were both neat guys and it's fun seeing them on tv! If I see them, I always have to say 'I went to school with him!'

I met Tom Cruise at a gymnastics meet about 7 years ago. His son is about the same age as my son and they were on competing teams. I was so starstruck I couldn't even breathe when I heard his voice coming out of his body. He looked at me with great amusement, as if he was wondering why I wasn't saying hello or something. I played it cool and acted like I wasn't standing there to be close to him. My legs were so shaky that I was worried about being able to walk away without falling down. I made it all the way to the steps and my knees buckled and I fell halfway down, causing a big scene. I spent the rest of the meet trying not to act like a stalker. I lost track of my daughter that day, who was about 6 years old at the time, and I had no idea how my son did at the meet. I'm so embarrassed that I acted like such an idiot. He was at another meet a few weeks later, and I almost ran right into him. I played it cool that time, and just said 'Hey' and kept walking. Anyways, I'm a fan.

My current claim to fame is being a caregiver for my mother, who has ALS, and working to get the word out about that disease. Previously when I was focusing on being a webmaster I worked for Lita Ford and The Runaways, among others.

Other than that I'm a pretty simple person, constantly on the hunt for evidence of the woman my grandmother swears we're all related to but we've never been able to find: a great-great-whatever great-grandmother named Melissa Meliza Malooliza Jane. Yeah. I'm also glad my mother took mercy on me in the naming department!

What a fun, soul searching lens! Here goes...

    My claim to fame:
John Smith (of Pocohontas connections) is my ancestor.
R.E.O. Speedwagon stayed at my family's guest ranch, until their helicopter whisked them away.
Former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor married my brother and his wife.
Actor Carol O'Connor (are they related?) spoke to my daughter at a gallery opening.
I have created a new subtle energy technique called Crystalline Consciousness Technique which could save the world.
At the age of 16 when I thought of nothing else but myself, I taught a girl with Down's Syndrome how to ride horses. Sally still includes me in her prayers for showing her how to ride. I still include her in mine for showing me that being in service to others is more gratifying than being self-serving.

My claim to fame, hmmm let me see.... I suppose these are my families claims to fame.

    1. My wifes family is decendant from Evan James and James James composers of the Welsh National Anthem.

    2. My Great Grandfather installed the first conveyor system for moving letters (mail) around a UK post sorting office.

    5. My ancestors were also involved in preventing the Gunpowder plot (Guy Fawkes 1605) to blow up King James I in the Houses of Parliment in London.

Interesting topics to research and maybe the theme of Squidoo lens in the near future. I wander what my decendents will be saying about me in a couple of hundred years time?

(I thought I'd added this a couple days ago, but it's not showing... )

I have three claims to fame:

    * The actor Michael Muñoz, stunt double for Danny Devito, among others, is my cousin (2nd or removed, I never get those right) on my mom's side. At least that's what her brother, my Uncle Bob told me. Unless he made that story up ~ and he was a joker, so.... Unless he made that up, Uncle Bob was Michael's grandfather.

    * I attended a lecture by, shook hands with, and got the autograph of Alex Haley, author of Roots. Absolutely fascinating!

    * I played basketball with Oprah Winfrey in, I think it was 1981. She was a local news anchor at WBAL in Baltimore, MD (USA), and we were on opposing sides in a benefit game to raise money for a women's shelter.

Thank you for creating this great lens for everyone to tell their success stories. You have a 5***** from me. Below is my claim to fame journey.

"My claim to fame have been a progression of experiences over the last 30 years. Initially, it was becoming a dentist and focusing my attention on being the best I could be for my patients.

That evolved into being a very skilled cosmetic dentist. My goal has always been to exceed my patients' expectations.

Another claim to fame was the release of my book, "What Can a Dentist Teach You about Business, Life and Success?" I have met some incredible people as a result of the book being published. I have also had many speaking opportunities as a result of the book."

Thank you for making this lens, it's always fun to be in the spotlight for at least a second or two in our lives! This is my claim to fame:

I've always been a bit of a free-spirit, sometimes much to the chagrin of my parent's. It wasn't exact and intentional, it was just simply me and who I am! There was one particular moment in my life that made me famous and was, most likely the catalyst.

Setting the Scene: NCS Ethiopia, Africa early 1960's; an anticipated parade.

With a child's excitement during this event I ran through the crowd up to the procession and Haile Selassie, the honored guest scooped me up without a second thought and kissed me on the forehead!

Through the eyes of the Ethiopian people we knew, I had been blessed by the kiss and should never wash my forehead. My folks, thinking on a different level, knew their dirty little 'babe' needed a bath. Venturing a guess that you know the outcome?

My claim to fame was going from a shy, completely unknown mother of 4 with no future plans to one of the top selling artists on the internet in only 2 years! My first ever painting sold at the CNIB auction for $475 in 2001 and I've been one of art.com and Allposters top-sellers for almost 5 years now. Of course, you all know how important Jesus was in that plan! The rest is pretty much history.

One other small claim to fame was when I was a young 19 year old receptionist working for the company Faberge many years ago...I met the great Cary Grant (Judy, Judy, Judy) and his wife Barbara. He was on the board of directors for the company and came to Canada for the grand opening of the company headquarters expansion. Needless to say, I was so starstruck that I was speechless! He shook my hand and said (in that charming accent). "Hello, I'm Cary Grant". WOW!

My claim to fame is that I won my very first karaoke contest, singing classic country songs like "The Teddy Bear Song" by Barbara Fairchild, "Blue Kentucky Girl",and other "oldies". Oh, yes, I'm a descendant of Sir Francis Drake-the pirate.

My claim to fame changes over time. When I was very, very young, I thought my grandfather was near to being "Smokey the Bear" a person could be, he was the Forest Ranger at Chickasaw State Park. As a child I thought it was because our family is related to Andrew Jackson. As a teen, I was Miss Tennessee Sweetheart one year. As an adult, being my husband's wife and my son's mother. Now, I think it is having new friends here at Squidoo and over at Imagekind. I have met oodles and oodles of amazing people, and hope to meet many more.

My claim to fame??????? Surely, it must be my PHENOMENAL eBay store! (That's a joke but I do spend a lot of time working on it!) Perhaps it is my FANTASTIC Squidoo lenses? (Well, they're a work in progress and I am new around here!) Maybe it is my INTERESTING Blog? (I suppose claims to fame have to be more than a day old!)

Seriously, I am going to call my FAMILY my claim to fame. They are very important to me and I have invested my all in them! I would be thrilled to have this claim known as what I did that makes me someone special so please count me as one of the not-so-famous people of the world who made an important contribution locally!

Hmmm, what do I want to own up to??? as my claim to fame. Let me think a minute ... How about knowing Woody Hayes -- he was the master of ceremonies at my wedding to my ex-husband ... we waited for Woody to show up, he was a little late. Then the OSU fight song started to play and we did the wedding walk into the garden. I thought that was pretty cool ... and have a couple of pictures with Woody that have turned 'yellow' with age. Oh, oh ... dating myself.

One of the best lenses I've found, great idea! My claim to fame, one good and one creepy. I met Tom Selleck. I was at the edge of the court of a volleyball tournament he was playing in watching someone else. All of his fans were screaming in the stands. I decided not to bother him. He must have appreciated this because he came over to me and started a brief conversation. The creepy one is Ted Bundy (serial killer) tried to engage my help in finding a rental car in an airport. I spent over 20 minutes with him before I finally ditched him. It wasn't until years later after he was caught that I realized who it was. And, one last thing. I'm a genealogist and while I was researching something else I accidentally stumbled into documentation that John Alden and Priscilla Mullins are my 14th great grandparents.
  • beempa Jun 24, 2008 @ 7:39 am | delete
Tee-Hee! I love this lens! 5*'s for you! My claim to fame was a short film (The Americanski) my husband made for some kind of Director's reality show contest in the US. I don't know what the name of it was, but his entry was submitted too late and he didn't get to qualify, but the show was produced by Steven Speilberg, or it had something to do with him.

Anyway, here is the link ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gREd8Nst3Rc )for those that want to see my 4:43 of fame. Since everyone gets 15 minutes, then I have another 10 minutes somewhere else in my life! :)

My claim to fame is a bit weak actually. But I once appear on a documentry on the BBC about teenage suicide as a girl in my year group unfortunately chose that way out. My Mother still reminds me of the comment I made about 'parents just don't understand' !!
A couple of years ago, I was interviewed on SaintsFM radio about the work I do & about my team. I thought no-one ever listened to that staion but I continually got told @loved your interview' etc...so you never know who's listening ;)
Apart from that, I did meet Davy Jones last Christmas.

My latest claim to fame is the successful YTB Mastertouch Travel Explosion seminar on the Queen Mary, Long Beach CA. It was hosted by the Mastertouch & Top Style Travel teams. Over 500 Directors, RTA's, REP's, and guests attended. This is unique since to our knowledge no RTA in the company 8 year history has done this type of event. Only YTB Directors have.

My claim to fame is through my writing. Although; for the most part, I go unnoticed all the time. Oh well, at least I try. I will keep on trying until I do get that fame and then I will move beyond it by setting a bigger and better example.
  • Stazjia Jun 16, 2008 @ 6:14 am | delete
My claim to fame isn't that convincing. I was invited to the Royal Variety Performance in London and sat amongst all the stars that attended. Around the same time, I went to an opening night at the Savoy Theatre and the aftershow party and met Mickey Rooney. As I worked in a theatre box office and met people like Brian Rix (who remembers him now?), Ray Cooney, a big theatrical producer, Susan Hampshire, PJ Proby - none of these known outside the UK.

What a great lends - My claim to fame:

I was a trainer with Anthony Robbins and traveled around the world on his dime helping people achieve their best in every area of their life when you visit my blog.

I am one of the few people who ever actually retired from Network Marketing. I worked the business for 8 solid years and have lived off of the residual income for the last six years.

I still do speaking engagements for any group wanting to take their team to the next squidoodamus level. What does your internal music sound like?

My husband I also owned a music venue in 2002 and had a chance to meet several touring bands. Some are pretty well known and now living like rock stars. We had The Used play our stage right after they signed their first record deal.

  • poddys May 16, 2008 @ 10:44 am | delete
Khalid - what you have done might not make you famous - but it does make you a true hero. Wars and conflicts are so sad, because they are so often the result of redicals or power hungry individuals, who care nothing about the common people. I hope things settle down out there and begin to improve. My best wishes for you and your country.
  • Khalid-Osman May 16, 2008 @ 10:28 am | delete
First thanks. Second, this is a great idea! Third, I think I have nothing else to do here.

Well, I do not have any claim to fame and I do not want to be famous because I am content by what I have in my circle of influence. However, I have gaps in my circle of influence due to 30 years of escaping bloody, religious fundamentalist military and civil dictators. Nevertheless, in ten years I have given my life to the Eritrean Revolution, sharing the rehabilitation and reconstruction of their country after a long independence struggle, our planet has never known before. I am content by that.

Well ... when I was out on my Hen's night about 10 years ago, the girls made me pose for photos with various men whilst we were out and about around town (Wellington, New Zealand). It wasn't until I showed my fiance the photos that I realised that two gorgeous fellas I'd had my photo taken with in a bar were in fact the New Zealand Rowing Champions (Rob Wadell and ..oh..I've forgotten the other guys name..).

ok, i'd never have known if my other half hadn't pointed it out .. but still ...it's kind of a claim to fame isn't it?!
Great lens Poddy, you're a star!

My claim to fame? I guess it would be the 9 years I worked for Ted Nugent.

Started when he moved Ted Nugent World Bowhunters to Jackson, MI in January 1991, and resigned late in 2000. Worked my way up from data entry position to Managing Editor and Layout/Design Artist of his Adventure Outdoors magazine, official publication of Ted Nugent United Sportsmen of America, which at that time had a circulation of around 25K worldwide.

Crazy days. Just a teenage kid when I started. Had lots of fun and learned much; the hard way at times, but grew nonetheless.

Still in touch; did a Nugent for President bumper sticker design for his organization just a few weeks ago.

Well, it's kind of a creepy one, but I was the piano teacher to the family who's little beauty pageant daughter was murdered quite a few years ago. Much better claim to fame was winning People's Choice and Best in Show Award for a woven shawl that I made. Oh, and I passed Woody Allen on the street once in London.

I've worked in the animation business for a long time so my name has been buried and ignored in the credits of various TV shows and features. In the early 90s, after working on so many shows that required months of painstaking labor, I quickly threw together an animated film of my own one afternoon. To my amazement it was bought by MTV and shown all over the world!

The best part of it was a review on the internet that panned it mercilessly. It ended with "if you had one day you could make this piece of crap." Actually, the critic was being too kind since I made it in less than an hour.

My claim to fame is having Oliver Wendell Holmes, the Supreme Court Justice, as an ancestor and Jesse James as an ancestor on the other side of the family. Odd mixture, huh?

On my own work I did have a book on painting flowers in acrylics published last year by North Light in North America, Search Press in the United Kingdom, and Simon and Schuster in Australia. I also won a juror's choice award for one of my paintings in an international competition, The Art of the Blossom.

I hope more things like that happen!

My great grandmother was an acrobat with the Barnum and Bailey Circus, my great-grandfather also worked there but I don't know what he did.
Me personally, I don't have much of a claim to fame. I was in the local newspaper when I was 4 years old. My twin sis and I were one of 3 sets of twins in our kindergarden class and we made up a third of the class, so they just had to do a story on it.
In my career as a Community Moderator/Manager & Administrator for online communities I was/am well known by thousands of members on the sites I worked on. Although most of them don't know my full name or even what I look like, if that counts ;)

One of my claims to fame.... I stopped the singing group of the 1960's, The Mamas & the Papas who were driving in a Lincoln besides me one evening on my way home from work. We were driving over the Desoto Bridge by Manatee Memorial Hospital in the early 1960's and I motioned them over. The actually STOPPED and I got their autograph for my sister-in-law who was a huge fan of theirs! I talked to them for several minutes; they were friendly & enjoyable! HOW unique is that in this day of superstars & groups having body guards and private jets! Things were sure different in the 1960's. Now, Mama Cass has passed on & I'm so excited I actually got to meet them, driving down the street in a small town USA. Also met Howard Bellamy of the Bellamy Brothers Singing Group at Webster Flea Market in Sumter County, Fl. He was shopping for bargains, I recognized him & just approached him & had a 5 minute conversation. Just a down-to-earth, everyday country boy! Cool!

    Hey Poddys
This is a great idea for a lens!
I've had several small claims to fame like winning an essay contest and receiving a sizeable monetary award when I was 13, singing a solo on the US Capitol steps on choir tour one year when I was 16 or 17, I have been interviewed on the radio and television for various activism activities in my younger days, and I currently provide private therapy services for children with developmental disabilities (e.g, Autism and Down's syndrome, I also create lenses for sale here at squidoo (my other aka is thelensgenie). Thanks for sponsoring this lens I can't wait to see what others tell us about themselves!

Well, my dad's great, great...great? grandma sort of dated General Custer (before he was general I believe) and rumor has it we are related to US President Buchanan somehow. But, more recently, I won a radio station caption contest, submitted a letter to the editor of our local newspaper on a topic that bugged me and I was included in the February issue of Parenting magazine, page 55 under what to do with your child's artwork. All completely unrelated, seems a coincidence and likely will never occur again like this! It's been fun though.

My character is a doctor in the movie and it was a lot of fun!
