This book opened many doors for me. I did not realize that company credit cards were not listed on your credit report. My credit score was 570 when I first read the book. My credit report was 16 pages. according to the credit report I had a judgement from a tax lien on a property I did not own. I had a new Ford Truck that I did not own. Loans on two Mobile Homes I have never seen. Compromised settlements on credit cards I did not have. I had been trying to get these cleared for two years. With guidance from the book I was able to get most of it cleared. I had over a million dollars in assets but I could not get a Real estate loan. I am in the process of shifting all of my credit cards to business cards. Now that I have cleared my credit report I have a fico score of 711 and going up when I clear everthing. I have $100,000 of available credit on business credit cards. This book keeps you clear of the credit repair sharks.

A credit report contains a person's credit score or rating and all of their credit history. It shows whether a person has missed payments on a credit card or loan, whether payment of certain bills was made on time, and any outstanding debts such as unpaid court judgments and tax liens. Of course bankruptcy also shows up too.

There are three recognized credit bureaus in the USA. All of these keep independent reports on practically every adult in the country.

When you apply for a loan, the finance company will apply to whichever bureau it is a member of, to get your score and your report. Usually they will make a decision based on the score alone. Sometimes, if your score is right around their cutoff point, they make take into account the details of your credit history.

If you ever get turned down for a loan you should check all of your credit reports right away. Do not apply for another loan until you have discovered what the problem is, because any rejected application is going to bring your score down even lower. If there are mistakes, you can have them corrected before you make another application.

Be careful not to have too many people check your credit in a short time. A lot of enquiries cause the report to be flagged. So do not give loan companies, potential landlords etc permission to check your credit score until you have decided that you definitely want the loan or apartment that you were looking at. Ten different landlords applying for a credit report on you within a short time would flag you as a possible bad credit risk.

The three credit bureaus that keep reports on you if you are a United States resident are Experian, Equifax and TransUnion. You can find all of these online, but do not apply direct to them to see your report. The services they provide through their websites are for people who want to see their report more often. You probably do not need this.

As a clinical psychologist and author specializing in the psychology of personal finance and the treatment of money disorders, I strongly recommend this book for anyone struggling with debt, and everyone who would like to avoid credit problems in the future. Steve Bucci is THE expert in helping people avoid and recover from excessive debt, and this book does not disappoint. The Credit Repair Kit For Dummies offers an in-depth, comprehensive, and enjoyable read chock-full of useful information. Given that last year more women filed for bankruptcy than graduated from college, and more children saw their parents file for bankruptcy than divorce, this book should be required reading in every high school in America. In fact, I think our elected "Dummies" in D.C. desperately need to learn and apply Mr. Bucci's principles in their management of America's finances.

How To Get Your Free Credit Report From TRW

Under the FACT Act (Fair Credit Reporting Act) consumers have the right to see their reports once per year for free. You can get all three credit reports together by going here: http://www.annualcreditreport.com

However you can also get a free or low-cost report in some other circumstances, even if you already saw it less than a year ago:

- if you have received an adverse action notice in the last 60 days because of information in a credit report

- if you are unemployed or receiving welfare

- if you know that you have been the victim of fraud or ID theft, and you think this may have affected your credit score

- if your state law allows you to get more free or low-price credit reports.

If you want to see your credit report more than once in a year and the above points do not apply, the companies are allowed to charge you. You could expect to pay around $10 for each report.

Credit After Bankruptcy: A Step-By-Step Action Plan to Quick and Lasting Recovery after Personal Bankruptcy

A step-by-step action plan to quick and lasting recovery after personal bankruptcy. Indexed.

You can establish mainstream credit after bankruptcy...in less than eight months. Whether you filed bankruptcy several years ago or last week, this book will show you how to make a dramatic and lasting recovery. Stephen Snyder and his wife Michele, each had their Chapter 7 bankruptcy discharged in 1993. They were both so cash poor at the time they had to borrow money from their families to file. Then, within eight months they mortgaged a home at six percent, leased two new cars, and obtained bank loans, major bank cards, start-up capital for a small business, and more all using mainstream credit and without the aid of high-interest credit companies.

If you are contemplating bankruptcy or are struggling to recover, buy this book! It's a formula that works, what else do you need? Other reviews mentioned I could get the info for free at a library. You won't find most of this at the library...but I also think my time is worth more than [the price] an hour in research...so buying a book with all the info I need in one place is well worth the expenditure to me. I had the priviledge of attending one of Stephen's seminars so I was further motivated to buy the book. Stephen is for real. He's "been there and done that", learned to break the rules and legally color outside of the lines and will help you on your road to recovery..financially, mentally and for some, even spiritually. He'll stop you from making the major mistakes almost everyone makes after filing bankruptcy (you wouldn't guess what they are!). Yes, you can buy a car at a decent interest rate. (Do you know where to go?) Yes, you can buy a home (you do not have to wait 7 years...he shows you the fast track). He recommends terrific outside services. I'm about to apply for a secured credit card, but cannot say enough about the credit repair service he recommends. My attorney warned me off but I did it anyway by Stephen's advice and it works! Every 60 days negative credit is being erased from my report. It's unbelievable to watch.

How to Obtain Free Credit Report Three Times Each Year

You can get all three credit reports together by going here:

But only apply to Experian then after four months go by apply for Equifax then after another four months get the TransUnion. That way you will have a better chance of finding any new errors that may have been entered. Otherwise you would have to wait a full year to be able to get all three at once again.

So far as I know, there is absolutely no problem with ordering a credit report through the channels set up by the Federal Trade Commission in compliance with the Congressional mandate to receive these reports. Feel free and safe when you click on www.ftc.gov (which provides a link to the official site) or www.annualcreditreport.com to order your free credit report.

The many web sites that offer free credit reports are probably mostly benign. But do you need to have your personal information and especially your Social Security number floating out there among so many unknown parties? Hardly seems necessary where there is a relatively secure (well yes, there is that Experian thing) government sponsored web site.
