So, what came before Serenity? FIREFLY of course!
If you haven't heard of Firefly or Serenity - and especially if you are a fan already - this site is for you. I have brought together a stack of links in the one place, with images of what you will find at some of them. These sites are great for all ages; many have great music and interactive components. If you have additional links that you think should be on this page, please don't hesitate to contact me with the details and I will update the lens.
The Firefly television series lasted only one season - fans were in an uproar. The movie Serenity came next - an attempt to provide closure to people like myself who needed more! The TV series and the movie are discussed together in this lens because they co-exist. There is talk of a sequel and DVD sales of both Firefly and Serenity should go a long way to convincing the big bosses in Hollywood to produce the sequel.
The Firefly / Serenity story in a nutshell...
Earth-that-was got used up.
We moved out -- terraformed and colonized hundreds of new earths; some, rich and flush with the new technologies; some, not so much. The central planets -- them as formed the Alliance -- decided all the planets had to join under their rule. There was some disagreement on that point.
After the Unification War, many of the Independents who had fought and lost drifted to the edges of civilization, far from Alliance control. Out here, people struggle to get by with the most basic of technologies. A ship will bring you work; a gun will help you keep it.
A captain's goal is simple: find crew, find a job... keep flying.

For those of you who don't know, the show featured a blend of elements from the space drama and old style western soaps. It showed mankind's future in very a different manner to most current science fiction television shows. There were no alien...
The Firefly theme song
Read the words & listen to the song
"Ballard of Serenity"Take my love, take my land
Take me where I cannot stand
I don't care, I'm still free
You can't take the sky from me
Take me out to the black
Tell them I ain't comin' back
Burn the land and boil the sea
You can't take the sky from me
There's no place I can be
Since I found Serenity
But you can't take the sky from me
Listen to the "Ballard of Serenity". Once you hear this you will be singing anytime you want to soothe your soul. I have a copy of the song words on my wall at work.
You'll find it on the Fireflywiki link below.

Best Show in the whole verse. Posted June 29, 2008 |
Firefly is one of the most amazing series I have seen so naturally I am stunned and disappointed that Fox could let such a rare jewel be cancelled. What were they thinking? We can only hope that one day Joss Whedon will be able share with us more of his remarkable story telling...

I really love this show. Too bad it was canceled so soon. At least the DVD continues to provide entertainment. Thanks for the great lens. Posted August 07, 2007 |
