My Top 10 Favourite Flowers

Hydrangeas are my #1 favourite... I just love the large flower heads and the way they grow into beautiful round shapes. There are many types of hydrangeas this particular variety is called the 'mophead' hydrangea. They come in wonderful colours from pastels to deep bold shades. Roses come in 2nd on my list of favourites. Elegant flowers from large heads to tiny little buds that come in a wide variety of shapes and colours. The flower that evokes love, romance, beauty and friendship.

Tulips are beautiful flowers that originated in Turkey. Many people think they came from Holland but that is not so. Tulips come in many varieties and colours. They make beautiful arrangements and bouquets.

Rhododendron bushes are #4 on my list. These large bushes with beautiful large flowers are just amazing to look at. There's nothing like walking through a large rhododendron grove and viewing these wonderful blooms. They flower in the spring and grow in a variety of beautiful colours.

Azaleas are a smaller version of the rhododendron family. A variety of colorful blooms from white to hot pink that generally flower in the spring. There foliage is dark evergreen.

Petunias are another of my favourite flowers. These flowers are wide trumpet shape with leafy branch like foliage. They come in a wide variety of colours and are wonderful in gardens, containers and hanging baskets.

Lavender is a beautiful flowering bush known for its gentle fragrance and healing properties. It is used in many herbal remedies and treatments. The oil from the lavender is extracted to make lavender essential oil. The blooms range in colour from grayish blue to vibrant purple.

Another favourite is the beautiful sunflower. A large circular flowering head with vibrant golden colour. A hairy stem with hairy leaves. The florets that grow inside the circular head turn into seeds which are picked and then eaten naturally, roasted or used to make sunflower oil.

Daisies are simple yet elegant flowers. They are typically white petals with yellow centers. Daisies are popular garden flowers that are said to symbolize innocence and purity. Often they are used as wedding flowers as well.

Hollyhocks grow to be between 5 and 8 ft. tall with large saucer shaped flowers. They come in a variety of colours from white to darker shades of purple and burgundy as seen here. These flowers are great for adding height to your garden. The grow tall and slender.
