My Connection
O.K. this is pretty thin. This brush with celebrity was truly a brush.
I was attending a meeting in the grand old hotel of Portland, Oregon, The Benson--since changed owners and names. As I stood before the lobby elevator waiting to go up, ping, the doors opened and there stood Red Skelton, suit, hat, cane and all with two attendants at his side.
I stepped aside and said, "Good Evening, Mr. Skelton." He replied, "Good evening." as he proceeded across the lobby and I entered the now holy elevator.
This was about 30 years ago and is still vivid in my mind.

Skelton's show business career began in his teens as a circus clown and went on to vaudeville, Broadway, films, radio, TV, clubs and casinos, while pursuing another career as a painter.
