Small & Home Business Stimulus Package Brings Money to Main Street

Looking for a new start after being laid off?
Some in Corporate America are looking to help you get started.
Franchise companies are reaching out with low-cost business opportunities for the home office set. And Intuit, the small business financial services company, has launched a list of services - and a competition - to award and reward go-getters looking to launch or sustain their small business in these dour economic times.
Called its small business "stimulus package," the program will provide the 27 million small businesses around the country with a monetary boost totaling $1,000 per small business and more than $350,000 in grants and donations.
With larger companies getting bailouts, smaller businesses are now asking "where's mine?" Intuit is giving small businesses the support they need. The initiative, called "Small Business United," will offer grants to small businesses and budding entrepreneurs, donations to nonprofit organizations devoted to the health of small businesses, free Intuit products and deep discounts on services to help small businesses get a leg up in tough economic times.
"Intuit is in a unique position to support small businesses by offering America's best-selling software solutions for free," said Brad Smith, Intuit president and CEO. "In addition, the monetary grants will help ensure small businesses can be as successful as possible, continuing to grow, create new jobs and innovate."

Though Economy Contracts, Small-Business Owners Stay Optimistic
October 31, 2008 02:58 PM ET | Matthew Bandyk |
Of course, you need two consecutive quarters of negative growth to be in an official recession, but it seems likely that more contractions are coming.
But take a look out your window. Notice that people are not lined up in the street for bread. War, Famine, Pestilence, and Death have not mounted their horses.
I'm not trying to make light of a situation that is dire for many people, but just to say-for most small businesspeople in this country, life will go on as normal.
Don't just take my word for it. Intuit Inc. released a survey yesterday that found small-business owners are "optimistic but realistic" about the state of the economy.
A strong 82 percent of small-business owners still see opportunities for their businesses, and 64 percent expect their business to grow.
The survey is from the second week of October, so it definitely wasn't taken before the worst of this crisis (or at least what we hope was the worst).
While both of those numbers were lower than the comparable figures six months ago, they're still stronger than perhaps the conventional wisdom about a recession would have it.
Intuit Says...
"We started as a small business a decade ago. We have been able to help more than 125,000 small businesses in all 50 states get started and maintain their corporate entities easily and inexpensively. And we've been successful throughout the ups and downs of the economy, so I would like to say 'Thanks' and give back to the small business community. MyCorporation wants to inspire entrepreneurs to continue to pursue their dreams. That is what drives our economy, and it will be what helps turn it around."If you knew anyone who wanted to incorporate, all you had to do was to pass this information on.
