My Delivery

The day my world was born. A not-so gross bit of insight into the world of giving birth and what it can really be like.

The Delivery

June 29th

Saturday Evening/ Sunday Morning about 2:00am I started having contractions. I wasn't sure if they were real or not so I just tried to go back to sleep at first, because someone told me if you're not sure than you're not ready yet. Basically they said if you are really ready you won't have to question it. I unfortunately question everything anyway. After I realized there was no way I was getting back to sleep I went and grabbed my book and the internet. I looked up labor starting on webmd and pampers parent pages. They basically told me to start timing the contractions and rating the intensity. At first they were inconsistent so I waited. By 4am they were consistent and getting stronger so I woke up by husband and told him it's time. He told me to call my doctor and we met her at the hospital. My family met us there a little later. The offered the epidural when I go there but I wasn't ready for that yet. By 10 o'clock my family got there, but my water still hadn't broken so they broke it for me. At that point the contractions got worse so I took the epidural. The epidural worked like magic I didn't feel any pain for the rest of the labor. The epidural itself didn't hurt either, there was just a slight pressure when they put in the needle. We watch movies and talked until about 5pm when I was finally fully dilated. He was born at 5:17pm. My mom, mother-in-law and husband stayed in the room for the actual delivery. I was thoroughly exhausted but not in pain. They did end up having to do an episiotomy. Which basically means they had to cut me a little so I wouldn't tear when he came out. He was 8 pounds 11 ounces.
