Hi, I'm Dixie

We got Dixie about 9 years ago. My husband and I had just bought a house, and we wanted a dog to go with it. I was in Veterinary Technician school at the time, and a classmate of mine had a picture of two Pit Bulls that were in the shelter she was working at. The shelter was the type where they euthanize the animals after a certain amount of time. I brought a picture home to my husband, and he immediately fell in love with her. He made the trip to the shelter on her very last day, paid for some vaccinations, and brought her home. She immediately bonded with us, and became a great pet.

I loved my Dixie because she was a great dog. She was very loving, and she was great with the other dog and my cat. I knew that, if it came down to it, she would have protected me, my son, or my husband if it became necessary.

Even though we got Dixie before my son was born, she was always keeping a watchful eye on him. If he was outside playing, or just walking with my husband, she always kept her eyes on him. She wouldn't move until she knew that my "little man" was safe.

Everyone knows that the dog in "The Little Rascals" was a Pit Bull Terrier, but did you know that there are other famous people that owned Pit Bulls? I didn't until I started researching this. Here's a partial list.

Pit Bulls are one of the greatest breeds of dog to have. They're smart, good with children, and far more gentle than most people give them credit for.

On July 15, 2011, we had no choice but to send Dixie over The Rainbow Bridge. Everything that was Dixie was gone. All she did was sleep and stumble around. We loved her with all our hearts, and we had 9 wonderful years with her, but she will be sorely missed.
