A Dogs Yarn

Hi my name is Oscar, and I decided to tell my dogs yarn to let you know how things have changed over time for me

The first place I went after leaving my parents was a pet shop, I was there for 3 days when a family came and took me to their home,
it was good at first. but later I found I was to be the older kids pet but she was only 3 years old, not old enough to look after me, the parents didn't have time for me either as there was a new human in the house as well.

I was unhappy, but every week we would get into a contraption (I now know is a Car) and go to this other house for a visit, I liked going there the man there would carry me around give me lots of pats and lots of Love, and when no one else was looking he would give me lots of Dog treats that he had hidden in the cupboard.

Then I went to stay here for a while as the family went away, I was there for a whole week and I love being there then ti was decided I was to stay, I was really happy, they loved me even though at first they had me stay outside at night.
I think they thought I might make a mess or something, but the soon changed their mind and I started sleeping inside at night, then they decided I could be inside when ever I wanted.
This is great I got a new bed, a hole in the door so I could come and go as I needed. Lots of room to run, plenty of food and drink lots of love, I have a healthy life, this is wonderful

The cat

The only thing I did not like was this orange furry thing called a Cat over the fence, I really didn't like it and I would try and get her.
That is her up the top there She lived over the back and sit on the fence and watch me so I would bark then I would get taken inside while daddy shooed her away, she didn't stay around for too long and I do miss barking at her.

My Dog Yarns continue

The other family came over lots to visit that was fine till the littlest human started to move round the floor, it was on all 4s like me but so big, it kept pulling my ears or tail Ouch!!! That would hurt so, I would use my door to escape till it left.

The Trips

Everything was wonderful I would be taken out in the car, where I had to have this belt on but I couldn't move very far, but when the car stopped everything was changed.
It was a place where there were others with 4 legs like me some the same size and others a lot bigger, and I wanted to go check out everyone of them, but the humans (who I now call Mummy and Daddy) had this other strap that stopped me getting too far from them so I just had to look

Holiday

We would get back into the Car which transported us to another place.
Sometimes I would be in the car for such a long time, and we would sleep in other places but Daddy had my bed so I was comfortable. I found out when this happened it is called a holiday, it was fun and I accepted that I had to have the strap on all the time.

When we got back home it was good to be able to run free in my big yard but after meeting so many 4 legged friends I was a little sad not having another dogs to play with me.

Food

I was happy Mummy would cook me special meals they tasted wonderful sometimes she would buy dry food, but I liked hers much better, and Daddy would get all sorts of treats and give me something every day.

We would go for walks all the time and it was fun to bark greetings to all the other dogs, when the big ones came near Daddy would pick me up he was afraid because I was so little that they would hurt me but they never did.

Changes in Dogs Yarn

Mummy told me they were picking up a puppy for me to play with so mum & dad left they were away for a long time when the arrived back they had this very little thing it's black and white and its so small if I sat on it I would flatten it what do they think I am going to do with that?

I Do not Like This

Well this was not a very good idea,daddy picks it up out of the box mum keeps it in all day and he's nursing it IN MY SPOT on his lap this is not good, well at least it hasn't taken my bed it sleeps in another room in the box with mum but everything is changing My Dogs Stories are not going to be the same any more .

Alright it's ok so far I still have the love I have always had so I guess she can stay but I will keep an eye on her,

Penny

Well it's been a while since Penny came to stay yeah I put up with her but she's always taking my toys and taking MY Spot on daddy's knee, I know he still loves me but Penny tells me she loves daddy the best.
Hehehe mummy & daddy don't know it yet but Penny is on heat again but this time I got to her hehehehe .

Not Happy

Oh!!!NO Mummy found out penny is going to have some babies,and she is not happy, Mummy said she is too little to have babies yet, so they took her away for a while when she come back home she was not happy, it was the first time she had been away from home. Now she has a scar on her tummy and she tells me she's never going to have any babies now

Trips Now

Penny has started coming out in the car with us now the traveling is not too good for her she gets sick ,so now we don't go on as many trips Daddy has solve that problem by stopping a lot more so Penny can go for a little walk,but it means there are not as many times that we go on the holiday we have a person called Karl who looks after us at home now.
Penny really has grown now she's such a bossy bitch, I just let her do her thing and I do mine but we watch out for each other.

Oh No!!! its all going to start again there is a new human coming over while its mother goes back to work, why did mummy say she would look after it.
It is a little girl this time she is not moving much, but boy does she make a lot of noise. then mummy goes and picks her up, I want to lick her but that horrible gate is back up stopping penny and me getting into the lounge.
This is not good, and with daddy being away on tours all the time we are not happy, Penny just went into Daddy's room and sat on the bed but I stayed trying to get to the" baby" human .
I heard the mummy saying she was going to go back to work in 2 weeks and the "baby" was coming here 2 days a week I am not happy, why do things change, I liked it the way it was.

An Update
That little baby is here 4 days a week and now I am allowed to stay in the room with her its not too bad this time, I don't know if its that I keep out of her way or she's not as bad as I remember the last little boy was. she is actually cute and she try's to pat me.
I don't mind so much now and I help Mummy by letting her know when Sarah wakes up.

Today I discovered that in the past people made a dog yarn from dog hair, some people still spin it today.

You would not be able to use mine or Penny's as our hair is much too coarse, but if you collected my friend Monty's which is very soft dog hair, or from one of the many bigger dogs that molts, you could in time have enough to make something useful.

It is Unusual

Spinning a dog yarn is inexpensive and unusual, it is an environmentally friendly way to make use of all the hair a dog that might shed, it then can be spun into a soft and warm yarn, but if you want to buy something made out of Dog Yarn you will find it expensive as the process is very time consuming

Hard Wearing

Dog hair was used many years ago, when people could not find anything else to use and I guess it would have been a very time consuming task.

Dog yarn is just as durable and hard wearing as a soft wool, although it does not have the elasticity of traditional yarns.

Add A Fine Wool

These days if you want more elasticity you could mix it with a little wool in the yarn, simply blend a fine wool or any other spinning fiber and spin as usual.

When you have gathered enough hair wash it lay it out to dry on screens separate the fiber and fluff it to help the drying.

Gently wrapping the fibers on to a card helps to bring them into alignment and preparing it for spinning, the carded fiber is then spun into a dog yarn which will then be stored until you have enough fiber to spin.
