My Top Ten Favourite Movies

I grew up as an only child, in a single parent household in a small town.

I traveled and explored via books and movies (which I mainly saw on TV, the nearest cinema was 40 miles away).

A few of these movies inspired my love of travel, a few inspired my love of learning (in the form of history, archaeology, etc.) and a few... well, there are a few that fall under the 'you had to have been there' category!

I have also lived in England, so a few of these I own both the US and UK versions.  The rest are all US versions.

My Number One: Auntie Mame

(Rosalind Russell)

I travel because of this movie.

I truly believe Rosalind Russell should have been the only actress to play Mame! She was also on Broadway for Auntie Mame.

Rosalind's costumes are a dream in this movie.

Life IS a banquet!

Number Four: Bound For Glory

This movie holds a special place in my heart because some of it was filmed where I grew up. I have many friends who were extras in this film.

Besides that, I feel it is a great story.

Number Five: Schoolhouse Rock!

Saturday Morning cartoons.

Yes, technically this is not a movie, I realise this. But, I have the collection in a DVD format, so I am calling it a movie!

I learned a great deal from these Saturday cartoons. These cartoons taught me about grammar, the American Constitution, government and history along with math.

I honestly think I retained what I learned in school at the time ONLY because of these cartoons!

I still watch this dvd every so often!

Number Six: The Mission

Robert DeNiro and Jeremy Irons

Wow! The cinematography in this movie is outstanding! I would watch this movie even if it had no sound.

Another movie that keeps my love of travel alive and one that also keeps me interested in history.

If you have never heard of this story, I do not want you to think, because of the title, that this is some kind of space or shoot'em up movie. It is NOT.

Rent it or buy it - but, SEE IT!

Ian Bannen and David Kelly

(The UK version is Waking Ned, the US title is Waking Ned Devine)

I cannot tell you exactly why I love this movie - I just do. Maybe it is Ireland, maybe it is the story of friendships, maybe it is the small town, maybe it is the 'getting away' with it..

About LifeStudent

I love to travel.

I am not good at group travel nor am I
good at the kind of travel that involves seeing 10 countries in 14
days. I like to spend at least one week in each destination.

One
of the big reasons for this is that in the first few days I get all the
tourist spots taken care of and then I have a few more days to really see where I am.
