Reading Is Fun

Do You Love to Read?

Do you remember way back in primary school when you got the scholastic magazines that gave you all the wonderful choices in books to order?

My parents never had much money, but they would always let me get at least one book from the catalog each time, and they would take me to the library every couple of weeks so that I could get my fill there also.

Now I get to not only instill the same love of reading in my own children, but get to introduce them to all of my old friends as well, my books.  My 7 year old son just read my 30 year old copy of Danny and the Dinosaur by Syd Hoff, and it inspired him to ask if we could go to the museum to see some real dinosaurs. What could be better than that?

The sad statistic is that many adults, once out of high school or college, never read more than 1 or 2 books for the rest of their lives, and that sends the absolute wrong message to their children. If not for yourself, then at least show your kids that reading is fun and not just something they have to do for school.

Last night we were going to watch a movie, and instead of watching the movie(one of the many bad comedies out lately, but I was bored), three of the kids decided to not watch it because they were busy reading for fun. Which is what I should have been doing, so luckily my kids love to read.
