Diving Into Alkaline PH This Summer!
My foray into improving my PH balance actually started in March. But, since I didn't really understand what I was doing (and perhaps, I still don't!), I am mostly going to discuss the changes I made and what I noticed about them as a summer event.
I do intend to continue this for as long as possible, just because I am feeling so amazingly good!

The Time Line
March 14, 2009 - The Day After My Birthday Pig OUT!
After a major extravaganza at Savanah's, in Sedona, for my birthday, I felt so terrible from over-eating sauce laden, rich food, that I knew that I needed to do something. To be honest, I hadn't felt very good since we had moved into our current home in March of 2008.My trusty Reliv was barely keeping up with my needs, and I had dark circles under my eyes, low energy, difficulty sleeping, and achy joints. I had been gaining weight steadily for a year, and refused to buy anything larger than a size 16.
I had been reading about the benefits of a Raw Vegan diet, wasn't sure if I could stick to such a thing. However, I also knew that I wasn't controlling my gluten intake like I should, and that my health was definitely paying the price. Sure, I could try it, and see what would happen (if anything).
Getting My Husband's Support
Convincing a Carnivore??
In order to get my husband's support, I had to impress him big time. He was convinced that a raw meal would leave him hungry and dissatisfied.On a quest to come up with the most sinfully delicious, filling recipe I could, I came up with the following. JUST LOOK AT THAT PICTURE!

Transition Time!
I now had permission to experiment! But first, I needed to get a handle on where I was PH-wise. So I got some PH test strips that work with saliva (most work only with urine... and I'm NOT going there!) I was starting out with a PH of 6.4, which is acid.After combing the internet for recipes, I had some that looked promising, and others that looked just plain weird. Nobody I knew and trusted had ever done this, so I was basically on my own. (Here, I have to sheepishly admit that I HAVE met Happy Oasis
on several occasions, but at the time, I thought Raw Foodies were just plain strange, and I wasn't interested in getting advice from somebody I had already convicted of being strange! - Now I feel like the Pot calling the Kettle black! - My apologies to Happy.)I made dehydrated crackers, with sprouted buckwheat and garbanzos, nut cheese, raw brownies, muesli, and spent nearly every hour of every day in the kitchen.
Enter Green Smoothies
A Break From Kitchen Slavery!
I saw a video on YouTube uploaded by Kevin and AnnMarie Gianni on Green Smoothies that looked interesting. My PH was still not ideal (on a good day I could make it to 7.0) and I knew that I still had a way to go. At this point, I was beginning to feel better, alternating with not feeling better. I now know that I was experiencing some detox symptoms.So, I began to experiment with green smoothies. Immediately, I noticed a huge improvement in my energy and my PH began to live at a consistent 7.2. I was now drinking a green smoothie every day possible. I even got my husband to drink them.
I don't remember exactly when I started to drink the smoothies, but it was well before August. During the first week of August, I went to Asilomar with a number of friends, and people were noticing that I had slimmed down considerably. (I don't own a scale, so I won't be reporting a decrease in lbs).

Alkaline Water
What????
While at Asilomar, I met a woman demonstrating a machine that makes alkaline water. She demonstrated that the water in my water bottle was very acid (ph 3.5) and compared it to tap water (ph 7.4) and various other water sources and ph values. Then she created some alkaline water with her machine and allowed me to fill my container each day with alkaline water (ph 9.5). http://alkaline-water.info/Alkaline water info.During the course of that week, I slept better, had less indigestion, and improved energy. Considering I had a roommate with sleep apnea, a strange bed, irregular hours, strange food, and too much excitement, I was very impressed!
Upon our return from Asilomar, we have continued to drink alkaline water (courtesy of my roommate with apnea, who bought a unit) and have noticed that I am still feeling great. My Reliv is performing better, and my inch reduction is accelerating! My PH has tested regularly at 7.5.
I have found a unit (at a much reduced price on eBay) and am awaiting delivery as I write this.

Note: The unit I saw at Asilomar was made by Enagic, their top of the line unit. My friends purchased a Jupiter, and I ended up with a KYK. I have no affiliation with any of these companies.
