a glance to BALER AURORA province

Baler - a town in Aurora Province

BALER is a 3rd class municipality and is the capital of the province of AURORA. Located 230 kilometer northeast of MANILA. BALER BAY is the best surfing place, nine-foot high waves...it's perfect!. If you're a surfer and want to join a surfing competition or just watch it, February is the best month to go - it's the Aurora Cap Month. Going there is 8 hours to 9 hours drive from Manila via two roads: One is the arterial road (through Palayan city). The other is the Canili road (via Talavera and Pantabangan, Nueva Ecija - recommended as the safest way to Baler). If you're a first timer, I recommend to take a bonamine as the journey can be dizzying because of the arterial and unpave roads. We do NOT recommend driving your cars because the terrain can be dangerous, the commuters should take the Bus. See below on HOW TO GO TO BALER.

I feel glad that internet has given me this portal, so that I can share the beauty of my hometown BALER. The place where the late President Manuel Luis Quezon was born and the hometown of Senador Edgardo "Edong" Angara. Balerians were born to be a leader, really!(?)

So... ride on your mouse and virtually visit and see the historical BALER town of AURORA province. Click!!

Personal thoughts:
I'm lucky to be born in the www era. It has given me the opportunity to travel the whole world without spending a cent and helps me expand my knowledge about everything. I was able to enjoy the panoramic scenery of the universe and be blown away over and over and over! It has given me a window to see the other places, see other people, taste different foods, learn how people live, know how other people survive, learn other cultures, showing me new trends and fashion, my gateway to the past and my doorway to the universe. Internet is my mobile library, it provides me information instantly. It has changed my life in so many ways, totally!

Charlie's Point - also known as Kagewad

this is the Aguang River

This is the Aguang River, and the opening where the water of the river meets the water of the Philippine sea is called Kagewad, but was also named "Charlie's Point".

Charlie's Point?? This is the trivia - Do you know that the helicopter attack on the "harry" village by the AirCa, which was the climax scene in the classic movie of Francis Ford Coppola - "Apocalypse Now" was actually filmed in Baler. The bridge foundation is still there (I think!) When I was a kid, we used to climb on those foundation in Aguang River. The place was called "kagewad" but was also named "Charlie's Point" after Hollywood invaded the area. It is along the Sabang Beach in Brgy. Reserva. The place where the opening or mouth of a river meets the water of the Pacific Ocean. Actually, the mouth of the Aguang River is not always open. A bridge formed by a high sand bar closes the opening during low tide, especially at night time (it is called River Delta). It will open naturally on high tide.

Here's how it looks like now

And then just recently, a new local movie was filmed also in Baler, Aurora province. The movie was entitled"BALER", which starred the hottest young actress and actor of our time, ANNE CURTIS and JERICHO ROSALES. The movie, according to the local news was a great success and has given ANNE CURTIS the Best Actress award.

If you want to visit Baler Aurora and try surfing the big waves

here's how:

Manila to Baler:
- You can take the GENESIS BUS Transport, they provide direct route to Baler from Metro Manila. The terminal is located near the EDSA - Taft MRT Station in Pasay city at the back of Chowking. The bus leaves the terminal at around 4:30 to 5:00 o'clock in the morning for the first trip and 6:00 AM for the second trip. If you're too lazy to go the Pasay terminal, you can wait at their Cubao Station, near Baliwag and ES Transport bus station. Fare is around Php 350.00. You may call +63 (2) 551-0842 or +63 (2) 853-3115 for inquiries.

Driving your own car is not advisable, I strongly suggest to take the Bus.

Manila - Cabanatuan - Baler
- Baliwag or ES Transport in Cubao near Nepa Q-Mart along EDSA will take you to Cabanatuan terminal, where you can transfer to another Bus or Van to Baler. Cabanatuan to Baler will usually cost you 150.00 pesos.

Using a public transport is highly recommended for traveling to Aurora, particularly to Baler. For more information, log on to www.aurora.ph or email: tourism_aurora@yahoo.com.

Yes, indeed. This place is beautiful and somewhat laid back away from the hazzle of city life. Depending on what you prefer to do in a place with country setting, two to three weeks is sufficient to enjoy the place. I stayed there for a week all by myself and it is very relaxing, although I started to feel home sick after a while.
