My Immortal is hailedas the worst fanfic ever written, and widely regarded as debateably the worst thing ever written. It's author, with screenname xxxbloodyrists666xxx, has been called a literary terrorist by some, and magnificent troll by others.

About My Immortal

My immortal is the story of Ebony Darkness Dementia Raven Way. She goes to a Hogwarts from a perverse and nonsensical parallel universe based on J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter. Ebony has romantic relationships with several of the primary characters. The plot mostly consists of Enoby going to concerts with Draco Malfoy, which is punctuated by her drinking blood, cutting her wrists, and lengthy physical descriptions of her wardrobe. Over the course of the story, almost all the male characters declare their undying love for her and break into song. There is no real plot to speak of, and any inkling of a storyline is promptly forgotten by the author.

There are a number of impromptu sex scenes, which betray only a very rudimentary understanding of what sex even is. The spelling and grammar are atrocious, often with misspellings of Enoby's name. The author often forgets what she is doing mid-sentence and the story becomes flat out nonexistant. At the beginning of each chapter, she swears at the "prepz" who "flame" her "storey" with criticism and negative reviews. She also inserts authors notes which either give away suspenseful points she is very proud of, or comment on how "sexah" the characters are.

All these pieces come together to make a fan fic so bad, it's actually good. Or maybe it's just bad. I'll leave that to you to decide!

What's a Fanfic?

A Fanfic, or fanfiction, is a story written by a fan, using a world and characters they love. Authors of fanfiction usually post these stories for free on the internet. Fanfiction can be written about a T.V. series, like Star Trek, video games, like Halo, or books, like Harry Potter.

Terminology

Here are the common words you will find in my immortal, and what they mean.
  • Flaming (flamin flammmin flamoing) means writing overly critical or deprecating criticism.
    The author repeatedly asks the 'prepz' to stop flaming her story.
  • Prepz - (preps, prps, prpz) People who don't dress like goths or participate in their subculture
  • Goths - (Goffick goff gthick) People who wear black, often skimpy outfits, wear black lipstick and nail polish, and dye their hair black or unnatural colors. They listen to certain kinds of music and eschew mainstream culture. They may or may not be any combination of satanists, cutters, vampires or vampire-wannabes in the context of My Immortal.
  • Vampires - In the context of My Immortal, sleep in coffins, drink human blood (often in cereal), and cry tears of blood. They also get credit for being very goffik.
  • Satanists - wear or like pentagrams. That's about it. It makes a character more gothic in My Immortal.
  • Cutters- Goths cut their wrists a lot in My Immortal. While cutting is a very serious topic in real life, My Immortal succeeds in making it laughable.
  • MCR - My Chemical Romance, a band
  • GC - Good Charlotte, a band
  • Marilyn Manson - a singer, makes you gothic if you listen to him.
  • Poser - (pozur pozr) A person who dresses like a goth, but does not cut/be a vampire/be a satanist, so they are little better than prepz in disguise.
  • Josh Madden - Some guy from a soap opera

Mary Sue

A Mary Sue character in a fanfic is an author avatar written for wish-fulfillment. This means the author writes herself into the story. Mary Sue characters are unrealistically beautiful and talented. All the characters fall in love with her and the story revolves around her. These characters are a common annoyance in fanfiction, and are usually terrible to read about. Ebony is a prime example of a Mary Sue.

Canon

Canon refers to facts and details from the original work. Fanfiction authors are allowed to break from canon on occasion. For example, putting Hermione in Slytherin house instead of Gryffindor might happen in a normal fanfic. However, My Immortal breaks canon constantly and hilariously.

Trolling?

There has been much debate over whether My Immortal was honestly written, or whether it was a clever trick to make people upset and confused.

I personally think that My Immortal could never have been planned, and that it wasn't a troll. Others, however, think it was written by several people who conscientiously tried to make a horrible horrible fanfic.
