Mylene Farmer

Mylene Farmer music and videos! Mylene Farmer was my favorite 80's french singer...and still is. Mylene Farmer's music videos are small gems, movie quality pieces with a great story telling. She is still around after 25 years, with a new album "Points de Suture" and a tour starting in may. Her new album has already produced 4 singles, a proof that she can re-invent herself.

Rare event! Mylene has agreed to a live TV interview

June 14th 2009

She is stunning as usual! France 2 anchorman Laurent Delahousse had the chance to land an interview with Mylene Farmer. She talks about her new tour of course. But also why she is not at ease given personal interviews: she is very secretive and shy and it shows in this interview. We also learn the she may be planning a new movie. And when asked what she sees in her futur, she says she didint' know but one thing is for certain: she will be the one deciding when she leave the show business.

Mylene Farmer 2009 tour

Her Stade de France dates

Fans are Furious

Well... as expected everything sold out quickly.
The 160 000 tickets for the 2 first Parisian date (Paris, Stade de France, September 11-12th 2009) sold out in less than 3 hours.

Fans are mad because nothing was done to prevent scalpers from buying places to resell. Plus, as expected the online and phone reservation systems were saturated the second they went live, preventing most fan to have even a shot at tickets.

A petition is going on to denunciate the resale of the tickets. Some of these tickets are selling for close to 200 euros a piece (over 300$)...for a show that will take place in a year and a half!!

I have nothing against the resell of tickets, because most of the time it can be taken care of at the source (limitation of the number of tickets you can buy, efficient reservation system that allow a majority of people to get a shot at tickets). In this case the FNAC (the official ticket seller for the show) just performed very poorly. EVERYONE knew hell was going to break loose the second the tickets were going on sale. They should have expected this and allow enough resources to deal with this.

I mean come on.... Mylene Farmer + Stade de France: the FNAC should have known! She is after all the only and first french female singer to perform in this stadium. And one of the very few artist who could filled it up so fast.

Her latest studio album, released in august 2008. A new mylene album is always a treat. Fans had to way more than 3 years since her last. It's a 10 tracks album, that includes "Appelle Mon Numro", "Sextonik" and the single "Degeneration".

I love.....

What's your favorite song? I think that her last amazing album was Anamorphose. I love everything she does of course, but I think that her first 3 albums were her best. What do you think??

What's your favorite Mylene farmer songs?

I prefer her songs from the pre-Anamorphose album (1995)

Khalid-Osman says:

That was the time I heard her and had some of her songs from the Alliance Francias, where I was carrying additional one-year French language studies. I had French for two years in the 1970’s.
She was my favourite French singer. I liked Tristana, Jardine de Vienne, Sans Contrefacon and A Quoi Je Sers .. However, it is difficult for me to understand every thing yet.

fanfreluche says:

My favorites are her older hits. Tristana is the song that got me hooked. I love also many of the "B" sides of her singles. I was very disappointed by her last album. It's good but not to par with her first albums.

She is much more interesting now, anything after Anamorphose is great

Rainer says:

Comme j'ai mal

bob says:

Je Te Rends Ton Amour

More of my favorite Mylene songs

Some "dance remix" samples

As you can see, a good proportion comes from her early albums. I guess i am stuck in the 80's. These are the "dance remix versions" available from amazon.

Mylene Farmer's influence

The Brothers Grimm and Luis Bunuel

Luis Bunuel movie "Tristana" was her inspiration for this song. Tristana is her 4th single and was released in 1987. The video, by Laurent Boutonnat is a re-interpretation of Snow White.I won't say Disney's Snow White here, because Mylene universe of death, violence, suicide, sexuality, sadness and fear of aging have more to do with the Brother Grimms original work than Disney toned-downed version.

This is another of her "movie like" video: long and with a story. Set in Russia, an evil tsarina, upon being informed that a peasant girl named Tristana is fairer than her, ask for her servant monk to kill her and bring her skin.

Edgar Allan Poe

Writer Edgar Allan Poe and French gothic poet Charles Baudelaire are two characters that inspired some of her early work. She paid tribute to both in these songs "L'Horloge" and "Allan"

Charles Baudelaire

L' Horloge (The clock ) from the poetry book "Flowers of evil" by french poet Charles Baudelaire.

Translation is from 1936 by Edna St. Vincent Millay.

The Clock

Terrible Clock! God without mercy; mighty Power!
Saying all day, "Remember! Remember and beware:
There is no arrow of pain but in a tiny hour
Will make thy heart its target, and stick and vibrate there.

"Toward the horizon all too soon and out of sight
Vaporous Pleasure, like a sylphide, floats away;
Each instant swallows up one crumb of that delight
Accorded to each man for all his mortal day."

The Second says, three thousand six hundred times an hour,
"Remember! Look, the wing%uFFFDd insect Now doth sit
Upon thy vein, and shrilleth, 'I am Nevermore,
And I have sucked thy blood; I am flying away with it!'

"Remember! Souviens-toi! Esto memor! - no tongue
My metal larynx does not speak - O frivolous man,
These minutes, rich in gold, slide past; thou art not young;
Remember! and wash well the gravel in the pan!

"Remember! Time, the player that need not cheat to win,
Makes a strong adversary. Is thy game begun?
Thy game is lost! Day wanes; night waxes. Look within
The gulf, - it still is thirsty. The sands are all but run.

"Soon, soon, the hour will strike, when Hazard, he that showed
A god-like face, when Virtue - thy bride, but still intact -
When even Repentance (oh, last inn along the road!)
Will say to thee, 'Die, coward. It is too late to act.'"

Mylene Farmer's tributes

To Greta Garbo

In this 1986 song she pays a tribute to actress Greta Garbo. This title was on the "B" side of her single "Libertine"

To Juliette Greco

"Deshabillez-moi" is a re-interpretation of another french classic song. This time, she is paying tribute to legendary french singer Juliette Greco. "Deshabillez-moi" was first released on "Ainsi sois-je" in 1988 and a live version is available on "Avant que l'ombre... A Bercy". This video is from 1988, she is live at Grand Opera.

To David Lynch's Elephant Man

"psychiatric" was released as a "B" side for the 7" single LP "Allan". It's a tribute to David Lynch's movie "Elephant man". Mostly a music piece with very few lyrics. You keep earing John Hurt (the actor playing elephant man) voice in the backgroud: "I'm a human being, I'm not an animal", and Mylene keep singing this mantra "It's easy this time to lose my mind".

Mylene Farmer's duos

Videos of her duos with international stars

Her duo with Khaled

My favorite duo

Duo with Algerian Rai king Khaled Hadj Brahim. They are doing an amazing re-interpretation of a classic french song called "La poupee qui fait non" (the doll that says no) written in 1966 by Franck Gerald . It is, in my opinion of course, better than the original by Michel Polnareff.

Her Movie: Giorgino

In 1993-94 she worked with her partner Laurent Boutonnat on a movie called "Giorgino". She co-starred with Jeff Dahlgren, Joss Ackland, Louise Fletcher and Frances Barber. Filming in the harsh winter of the Czech Republic proved difficult.

The big budget movie (20 000 000$)
was a big flop when it came out. It was taken off the screen after less than 3 weeks.

Fans had to wait more than 10 years to see the DVD release, thanks to a very big and vocal fan base. Boutonnat agreed to the release to please Mylene fans.

Mylene Farmer Cest une belle journee

Not her usual style of video, pretty cute. The song says: it's a beautiful day, I will go to bed.....it was apparently going to be: it's a beautiful day, I will kill myself. But she censored it (or had no choice to do so).
