Visit My Mercado Mexican Imports

I live just minutes away from the U.S.-Mexico border so I enjoy visiting the border towns. I love the food, the atmosphere and the great buys.

I created www.MyMercadoMexicanImports.com so that you can decorate their homes, give fabulous gifts or wear traditional Mexican clothing without having to travel all the way to Mexico.

Check out my Mexican Mercado shopping bags

One of the hottest trends that every woman wants is a Candy Wrapper Purse! What is a Candy Wrapper Purse you ask?

Each purse is handmade from hundreds of recycled candy wrappers. No two purses are alike!

Some call them Recycled Purses, others Basura Bolsas, but their most popular name is the Candy Wrapper Purses.

I've only got a couple on hand, but I'll be picking up more in Mexico in a few days. So get yours now!

If you enjoy the more traditional, bohemian Serape purses I've got plenty in stock.

You can also get one of the ever popular Mercado shopping bags. They are perfect for taking to the beach, grocery shopping or carrying your laundry.

How to make the best Mexican Salsa

A recipe so easy even you can make it!!!

Do you love Mexican food, but don't know quite how to make it? Periodically I'll be adding some of my favorite recipes. I'll start with salsa.

Fresh Salsa Recipe

6 Roma tomatoes
1 large white onion
1 Serrano or jalapeno pepper
1 bunch cilantro
1 clove of garlic or garlic powder
Salt
Pepper
Olive or vegetable oil
1/4 cup water

Chop the tomatoes, onions, jalapeno and cilantro. Smash the garlic. Mix the tomato, onions, pepper, cilantro and garlic. Toss gently.

Add salt and pepper to taste. Add about 1 to 2 tablespoons of oil and the water to your chopped vegetables. Toss gently.

Refrigerate the salsa until your guests arrive. Serve with chips. If you don't want to chop the vegetables you can always put them in a food processor for a couple of seconds.

I've got authentic Mexican molcajetes for you to buy and amaze your friends.!

Recipe for a steaming cup of Mexican hot chocolate!

It's so delicious you'll never go back to the old stuff!

There's no better way to make a cup of authentic Mexican chocolate, then by using a handcrafted
Mexican molinillo Mexican chocolate whisk.

The molinillo will turn your hot chocolate into a frothy drink.

The molinillo is made of turned wood and put into a pot of hot milk and Mexican chocolate.

You put the molinillo between your palms and rotate it back and forth until the hot chocolate becomes frothy and delicious.

To make a cup of chocolate add one cup of milk for each serving and then break off a piece of Mexican chocolate - I've got Ibarra, La Popular, and Abuelita. They're all delicious, although I prefer La Popular because that's the chocolate I grew up drinking.

And if you can't decide which one to try, I've got a variety pack of all three Mexican chocolates just for you!

To make it even better, add a dallop of whipped cream on top, sit back and enjoy the most delicious hot chocolate you've ever tasted in your life!"

Mexican Guacamole Recipe

It's so easy to make

Tonight we had a get together at my house. We barbequed some ribs, some chicken wings and fajitas. Of course we made Fresh Salsa, but we also made some great Mexican Guacamole.

If you've already made the salsa, then the guacamole is going to be so easy.

You'll need:
3 or 4 avocados
A pinch of salt
A pinch of black pepper
A small amount of water

Split the avocados open and put them in a bowl. Set aside one of the pits. Smash the avocado until it's a bit smooth, but still a little chunky. Add salt and pepper to taste. Slowly mix in a little bit of the water - don't make it too runny.

Now toss in about 5 or 6 spoonfuls of your fresh salsa and mix it all together. Now toss in the leftover avocado pit. The pit will keep the avocado from turning dark.

Some folks use lemon juice and I sell the Mexican lemon squeezer, but I prefer to use the pit so I can avoid the taste of lemon in my guacamole.

Grab an authentic Mexican pottery bowl, some chips and you're ready to go. Enjoy!

Mexican children's toys!

Let them have fun

Most Mexican toys are hand-crafted of wood and can be passed down from generation to generation. The Baleros Cup is just such a toy.

It can be played by children and adults alike.

The idea of the game is to get the small ball inside the wooden cup.

As a child it was always fun to play, but as I get older it seems the ball gets harder to make in the cup!

I also have Mexican spinning tops and everyone's favorite Mexican maracas.

A mermaid, a skeleton and a drunk all come together for Loteria

Let's play Mexican Loteria

Some call it Loteria, Mexican Bingo or even Chalupa.

Either way the game is much like Bingo. Someone gets to call out the cards while everyone else puts beans or pennies on each of the characters called on their card.

You can even play for a jackpot just require everyone to put a nickle or dime at the beginning of each loteria. The winner of every game wins the jackpot.

You can play a full card or a straight diagonal, horizontal or vertical line.

Don't be too shocked to find cards with a mermaid who is showing you her breast (La Serena), the drunk stumbling on the streets (El Boracho) or the black man dressed with a top hat and cane (El Negrito).

Just enjoy the game ... and practice your Spanish at the same time.

I've also got Loteria cards, and one-of-a-kind Loteria lightswitch covers.

Let's play Toma Todo

Win the jackpot & learn Spanish at the same time!

Toma Todo is a Mexican game that has been played by children and grown-ups throughout Mexico for generations.

The six-sided top is called a Pirinola. Toma Todo means take it all and that's exactly what you get to do - take the jackpot.

It can be played with chips, but its much more fun with money! Each player places a coin in the center and then takes a turn spinning the pirinola.

Here's what each side means:

Todos ponen - everyone places a coin
Pon 1 - place one
Pon 2 - place two
Toma 1 - take one
Toma 2 - take two
Toma Todo - you win the jackpot!!!

I've also got a variety of other Mexican toys for you and your family to enjoy.
