- notepad for assignments
- Don't forget to brush your teeth before you play. Clean teeth and a clean mouth mean that reeds will last longer and the oboe will need fewer repairs.

- Bert Lucarelli is being presented in two weeks of Master Classes this summer focusing on solo performance including the fundamentals of oboe-playing and reed-making skills. Participants will have intensive oboe instruction for four days, resulting in a performance on the last day.
- Double Reed Festival - Department of Music - Lipscomb University
- Lipscomb University hosts a Double Reed Festival for oboists and bassoonists throughout Middle Tennessee and surrounding regions April 24-25, 2009. Festival events will begin on Friday evening, April 24, 2009 with a recital featuring Guest Artists Jeffrey Rathbun (associate principal oboe, Cleveland Orchestra) and Steven Wilson (bassoon, National Symphony Orchestra, Washington D.C.).
Saturday, April 25 events will include a panel discussion, master classes, vendor displays, a mass Double Reed Ensemble experience (bring your instrument) and a recital featuring the festival guest artists and Nashville professionals. The closing festival event will be a 7:00 p.m. concert with Guest Artists and the Nashville Double Reed Ensemble in Collins Alumni Auditorium. Festival registration is $15.00.

To Whom It May Concern,
As you may be aware, Sony Music Foundation is hosting the 9th International
Oboe Competition of Karuizawa, Japan in this October. The Competition has
been held triennially since 1985, and to date, the prize winners have taken
the position of the principal oboist of such world famous orchestra as the
Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Amsterdam Royal Concertgebouw, Berlin Deutsche
Opera Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, Orchestre National de France,
Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, to name a few.
Today, we are happy to inform you that upon the preliminary screening, the
participants to go on to the First Stage have been selected. Talented
young oboists will be gathered from all over the world to the town of
Karuizawa to compete in this fall. On October 17, a concert by the jury
members is scheduled where one could witness and listen to the world class
performance.
We appreciate your kind cooperation in informing about this Competition to
your friends, oboists, teachers, and students who may be interested in
learning about it and possibly in its participation in the future. You
