Our Preemies.
Just in a nut shell, I had the misfortune to have preeclampsia with both of my pregnancies. All was fine...except for the normal nausea, etc...until somewhere towards my third trimester. My blood pressure elevated to a dangerous level, among other problems that surfaced...differing from each pregnancy and almost to the day...of 6 wks till due date I had to have emergency c-sections. My boys are almost two years apart in age.I never got to do the "normal" thing when you have a baby...hold them right away, feed them, keep them in your room, take them home when I was discharged. For our family...it meant alot of waiting and praying. Apart from a peek above the surgery curtain I didn't get to see my firstborn for about another 28 hours or so maybe. Didn't get to hold him till he was 2 days old. My husband did get to hold our second son in the delivery room. I did get wheeled into the NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) soon after to see him also. They both had similar issues but our #2 escaped several of the unwanted extras that our #1 couldn't. They both spent at least 3 wks each in the NICU dealing with their preemie problems...the most frustrating for me was the eating! They had to LEARN to eat ENOUGH...its enough to drive a mom crazy. You feel like they'll never "get it". The hospital staff called it "wimpy white boy syndrome". Preemie boys are slower to conquor some issues than girls. My boys weren't super tiny or micro preemie but they were preemie and had their challenges. They both weighed close to 4.5#s.
When I had #1, there was no support group for us parent's...at least not at the hospital that I am aware of. Today however, Aultman Hospital does have a support group for parent's like us. Aultman Hospital is located in Canton, Ohio and if you are in the area and would like more info on this support group, please contact me.

- I am a Mother of a 30 week premature infant who has spent much time out of the NICU creating a journal and keepsake for parents touched by prematurity. I have published three editions to this preemie baby book which provides fill-in pages, journaling and medical resources. Our journal is available on Amazon.com and is truly providing parents a companionship throughout their NICU stay.
I am in the process of re-publishing our first edition and will be including multiple pages that outline foundations, organizations and websites that are supportive to parents. I would like permission to include you in our resource section and highlight the benefits of your website.
If you would consider being a part of this endeavor, please email me back with any artwork or verbiage that you wish me to use in your page space. I will be able to provide you with a proof of the work and again with your permission would publish to Amazon.
I anticipate that within the next 3-4 weeks the journal will be in full publication on Amazon. Your support is greatly appreciated.
To locate our NICU Companion Journal on Amazon, follow this link::
http://www.amazon.com/Jessica-Williams/e/B004G0E4PC/ref=ntt_dp_epwbk_0
If you would like to consider carrying our journal or highlighting it's benefits on your website, please send back an email with that request. We are always honored to be noted by other foundations and organizations, and will include any artwork that you may need for that purpose.

- This is a nice lens on premies, needless to say. My (now 28-year-old and very handsome and, of course, wonderful) son was born at 34 weeks, breech, and in an hour and a half. His sister, due at the end of the January and born at a nice, good-enough, 37 weeks, threatened to be born from October. As you mentioned, when your baby comes way too early you can't have/do all the things "every other mother" gets to do (even though lots of babies are premies).
Not long ago I started a blog, "For Moms of Premies", with the idea of trying to offer "big sister-ly reassurance", along with resources to solid information about the matter of premature babies and delivery. http://www.momsofpremies.blogspot.com/
Even with a healthy premie, things can be scary. It's one of those things that make mothers feel as if they're in a "special club"; and even long after dealing with issues associated with premature, there can still be that poignancy of knowing you were admitted to a "club" from which you may grow distant over time but to which you will always, in some small way, remain a member.

- We have a healthy 3 year old called Lily. She started out at 1pound 15 ounces. I still think about our fear almost daily, but want to share our story to give hope to others that tiny babies can turn into healthy babies.

- Thank you so much and I wish you and your family the best! It can seem like forever when they are in the NICU but soon it will be but a memory when they are home and growing up. Take lots of pictures now and even document their experience and yours for them to read about when they are older.
Thank you for leaving your comment![in reply to Becca]

- I am a new mother of premature twins born at 27 weeks gestation.
My best friend bought the babies some adorable clothing from:
www.LittleSproutCollection.com
I can't believe how soft the clothes are and how perfectly they fit my little ones.
Definitely check this site out....I can't wait until they get bigger to wear the rest of their new clothes.
Best wishes to all you new moms and your precious little babies.
