Discover New Music on MySpace
I created this lens several years ago, at the height of MySpace's popularity. Now that Facebook and Twitter have taken over the Social Networking world, a number of people have moved away from MySpace and are missing out on a great deal of great music that is offered up directly from the artists that create it.
After a number of my favorite bands started creating official MySpace pages, I decided it was time to finally break down and create my own.
I was shocked by how many amazing artists were on MySpace Music and what a great opportunity this was to find new music.
Shortly after creating my profile and adding my friends and family, I started receiving invites from a lot of great bands of which I was unfamiliar.
I am assuming that there are many other music lovers that would appreciate a list of the official MySpace pages for these great metal and rock bands.
Please feel free to contact me, and let me know about other great official pages that I may have missed.
Even after all these years. this lens is always work in progress, so expect it to grow and change over time. I'm in the midst of a fairly major redesign of this lens as it's been several years since it was first created and since so many things have changed on MySpace, I think it's time to redecorate.

Bands I've discovered via MySpace
MySpace Music is my number one source for new music discoveries. Everyone should have a MySpace account and help spread the word about great music.
- The Awakening
- Fortunately this band found me through mutual MySpace friends. The music is really fantastic and they have their first EP coming out, soon. Check out the tracks on their page and keep and eye on these guys. I think they will do well.
- Bloodwolf
- I'm always happy to discover new metal bands, but it's even better when they come from Cleveland. I enjoyed the three tracks posted on MySpace and will definitely make it a point to hear more.
- Crimson Tears
- I heard this band for the first time today on MySpace and really enjoyed the music. It's definitely right up my alley - gothic metal with a great female voice.
- Donnie Christianson
- I found Donnie's MySpace profile because he found this lens. What a wonderful way to discover new music! Donnie has a fantastic voice reminiscent of Geoff Tate and the music he has posted on his profile is terrific.
- Evergrace
- Hey, this is good stuff. They sound great, and they have a new CD out. You can check out a few tunes on their MySpace page, and check out the rest of it on their homepage.
- HellYeah
- I don't know how I've missed this before, but thankfully I received a friend request. This "Supergroup" includes Vinnie Paul, Chad Gray and Greg Tibbet from Mudvayne, Jerry Montano and Tom Maxwell from Nothingface. Check it out!
- Ilium
- Their MySpace profile says that they are a metal band from New South Wales, with a huge list of influences. The songs on their page rock. A little bit power metal a little bit progressive, with good vocals. I'm definitely anxious to hear more.
- Lanfear
- Lanfear is a killer power metal band from Germany. Check out their latest CD, X to the Power of Ten.
- The Mercury Retrograde
- I actually discovered this band thanks to a comment on this lens. They have several very cool songs, some hilarious photos, and a few videos on their MySpace page. Check them out.
- Swallow the Sun
- I discovered this band through a recommendation from a MySpace friend and immediately ran right out and bought their latest CD. This is fantastic doom metal from Finland.
- Trettioariga Kriget
- Why does so much great music come from Sweden? Somehow I managed to miss out on this fantastic music for all these years. Check them out!
- Wolverine
- I discovered this fantastic progressive metal band from Sweden, through MySpace friends. There must be something wonderful in the water there.

- Leaves' Eyes
- Liv Kristine Espenæs Krull and her husband, Alexander Krull, share the vocal duties beautifully. She has the sweet voice of an angel and he has the heavy vocals to perfectly complement her.

- I review artists that other people haven't heard of on my blog, Melodyhunt. Contrary to popular belief, most of the bands I find are found while searching through Myspace. Sometimes I'll find a band on Myspace, I'll see the band is touring, and I'll then go to the website for some of the events they'll be touring to. This gives me a whole list of bands that sound like that artist.

- It's a shame about myspace. I had one for my music for so long, but it simply wouldn't get plays because no one went on myspace. Now I have a purevolume account, it doesn't get as much traffic, but it uploads music faster. I'm in and out, unlike myspace. Great lens!
