My Favorite Mythbusters Myths

Ranked #19,800 in Entertainment, #241,595 overall

One of my favorite television shows is Mythbusters. I think one of the reasons I like it so much is that I have heard many of the Myth's that they test my whole life. Many times, I have taken for granted that the Myths were just facts. The Mythbusters dive into the Myths and determine - Fact or Fiction (they call it Myth Confirmed, Myth Plausible, or Myth Busted). It is always so interesting to see what they find out.

My purpose with this lens is to highlight some of my favorite Myths that they have busted (or confirmed). I will be adding to this list over time, so check back for updates - or Favorite it and I will send a Squidcast to you when I update it.

Do You Drive With Your Windows Down or Your A/C On?

Occassionally, the Mythbusters will mess one up - they will flat get it wrong. In my opinion, this is the case when testing whether it is more fuel efficient to use the car air conditioner or to ride with the windows down. Their test were inconclusive when the did them in Episode 22 because the point in which the drag from the wind resistance made it more fuel efficient to ride with their windows down was about 50 miles per hour - they were testing both 45 mph and 55 mph so they got differing results. When they revisited the test in Episode 38, they determined that 50 mph was the magic number.

BUT...they still blew it. When using the air conditioner, Jamie had it maxed out. He had a heavy coat on and was freezing. No normal person would ride with the air this maxed out. They would cool off the car, then turn the air down to a reasonable level. While, I am sure there is some point where it is more fuel efficient to ride with the windows down, I still believe that it is well below 50 miles per hour. Who wants all that wind anyway?

Tell Me What You Like Most About Mythbusters? Or Dislike?

You need a heading in your introductory module but apart from that small thing this is a lovely little lens. If you rewrote the info from wikipedia in your own words telling me what or who the MythBusters are, this lens would be worth a blessing.

This is a great lens. We also LOVE this show. It's one of the few shows we can watch together as a family. Our favorite is the interleaved phone book strength. We actually duplicated the experiment for our science fair project...Won a blue ribbon! Way to go with this lens. You've listed some myths we haven't seen and now we've got to check them out. From a fellow South Carolinian.

I have only seen this show a few times but it is very interesting and so is this lens. Well done. Welcome to the South Carolina Group.
