MyWDW Restaurant Review: Yak and Yeti
Ranked #2,893 in Travel & Places, #92,964 overall
Yak and Yeti Restaurant in Asia at Disney's Animal Kingdom
Yak and Yeti is wonderfully themed, with luggage set off to the side near the check-in desk, rows of hotel keys lining the wall behind the hosts. You really feel as though you're in another country, ready to settle in before a grand trek through the nearby jungles. So, does the food stack up to the theming? Let's find out!

My Experience

I arrived at the Yak and Yeti with my party of four about an hour before our reservation time. We had been wandering the Asia area, enjoying the animals and shops in the area, but had been caught by the scent of food and were extremely hungry, so we decided to chance asking if we could arrive extra early for our reservation. They told it was no problem, and within fifteen minutes, we were seated. Our server was quite friendly, though he even early on pushed the Landry's Discount Card, which was useful at the various restaurants owned by the franchise organization (including the Yak and Yeti [which, to my knowledge, isn't a chain], Rainforest Cafe, and more]). I don't fault the server for mentioning the card, as I'm sure it's required in his job, but I do fault the restaurant for the spiel forced on them.
The others in my group and I eventually decided on our food, and put our orders in - I had a bowl of wonton soup, and the others at the table ordered wok-fried, breaded green beans and the dim sum for two. I found the wonton soup to be fairly good, though not too much better than what I get at my local Chinese restaurant (the broth was about average, the wontons a bit better than average). The fried green beans were quite nice, though, as was the sweet chili dipping sauce. I only tried the pork wonton dumplings from the dim sum platter, but the pair who ordered it seemed to like them well enough, though certainly didn't rave over them.
The main course arrived just as we were finishing up the appetizers. I had the glazed duck, which came with jasmine rice, mixed vegetables, and an orange wasabi glaze. The duck was cooked nicely, though the skin wasn't quite as crisp as I would prefer, but the meat was tender and moist. The orange wasabi glaze was delicious, with a nice wasabi bite to it. I personally would have preferred more, but I like my food a LOT hotter than the average person. The sides were good enough, nothing spectacular. The others at my table got the baby back ribs (which were quite good - as that person couldn't finish them and the rest of us helped a bit), the bourbon chicken (which apparently wasn't quite flavorful enough), and the maple tamarind chicken (which my friend said was too salty for her, though when I tried it, I found it to be very nice, with the tamarind coming out very nicely. Different tastes, I suppose, but those who don't like salty things, be warned!)
After we finished, the server came to offer desserts, though we were all too full from dinner to order any, and we asked him to split up our checks. Over all, this didn't seem to be an issue, though using a single Annual pass for the discount seemed to give the computer some troubles, as it took the server getting a manager and some time to get the whole affair settled, though he did appear a couple of times to let us know it was being worked on.
Final Score
All in all, a roughly just-above-average meal, although a tad bit too expensive for what you get, in my opinion. For a beer, a bowl of soup, and my meal it came to roughly $40 with tip, which is definitely higher than I'm used to paying for at Disney, especially solo. The food was good, though, and the atmosphere was really great, really feeling like a privately-owned hotel with a restaurant attached than a chain restaurant, except the pesky Landry's sales pitch.
Three and a half stars and a small recommendation from me - if you want to have a nice, sit-down meal at Animal Kingdom, Yak and Yeti is a pretty good, but not outstanding, choice.

- Reading the menu, both here and from the links you included, my saliva glands started up, but like you, I prefer my Asian food a bit hotter than most Americans can handle. Everything sounded so delicious from the menu, but I get the feeling from your review it was so Westernized it may have made it mediocre. The dim sum platter sounded good for lunch as did the seared Ahi, but I will think twice before having lunch there and check my other options first. *Squid Angel Blessed* and added to My Squid Angel Blessings 2012 to the "Travel & Places ยป United States" neighborhood.
