Stuck For A Wedding Theme? 7 Wedding Centerpiece Ideas To Get You Started
Ranked #25,559 in Home & Garden, #441,563 overall
There's no need to be stuck for wedding centerpiece ideas!
Are you currently planning your wedding? You'll be well aware that wedding centerpieces are one of many things you need to plan for during the wedding preparations.
Getting the wedding centerpieces right is crucial, as they can form the basis for the entire theme of the rest of your wedding.
You don't have to spend much money and they needn't be extravagant or complicated either. The best wedding centerpiece ideas, I think, are those that are imaginative yet ultimately simple.
So where can you get wedding centerpiece ideas from? My advice is to look no further than the objects, colors and seasons you can see all around you!
1. Flowers and plants
Add an instant splash of color.
Flowers don't have to cost a lot of money. They'll always be colorful and attractive, though of course you must make sure they match your overall color scheme.Orchids or Carnations work well with more traditional weddings. For a more unusual and original theme try Alium or Larkspur - they'll certainly get the guests talking!
Exotic plants like Bird of Paradise or palms can look very dramatic and will certainly create an impact. It'll look bold and impressive if you can pull i off!
Don't forget to consider the humble pot plant. Pot plants generally can add a touch of interest, with the added bonus that they can given as gifts once the wedding has finished.
2. Edible food centerpieces
Fruit and chocolate nibbles!
Edible centerpieces at a wedding can make a fantastic talking point! They're certainly a great alternative to the traditional ideas. A friend of mine had fruit-based centerpieces at her wedding just last week. They looked great and served as an irresistible snack to nibble on throughout the day (though I'm not sure I was supposed to be eating them...).Fruit and chocolate is a great combination. Try to choose colors that either complement or contrast with your general color scheme. The arrangement can take any form you like.
Pumpkins and squashes also look really impressive. Try adding them to set up a harvest or Halloween atmosphere for a Fall wedding.
3. Glassware and candles
Beautiful light and color effects.
Candles make excellent wedding centerpiece ideas. You could add some floating candles alongside flowers or in addition to pieces of fruit. The candles themselves could be static or floating in water for to add a real hint of atmosphere.
You can easily add interest to the wedding table by varying the shape of the glass bowls and vases you use. Try to find some interesting shapes and sizes. They'll each reflect the light in unusual ways.
Pebbles, shells and colored sand are other ideas worth considering to fill the glassware, in place of candles or water.
Water and glassware gives the centerpiece another dimension by easily adding some beautiful textures and colors without too much effort.
4. Seasonal ideas: Winter and Christmas
Get festive!
Winter can conjure images of cold, lifeless, colorless landscapes which at first glance certainly aren't conducive to inspiring wedding centerpiece ideas! However, if you're holding a wedding in Winter, it doesn't mean it has to be colorless and dull! Winter, remember, is also a festive time of Thanksgiving and Christmas, so look to those celebrations for ideas.
Red, green and gold can be used as powerful color statements, but also think about the beautiful crystalline shapes of snowflakes for wedding centerpieces.
How about using holly and ivy as a general backdrop. enhanced with red and white flowers to offset them. Friends of ours had a December wedding decorated like this, it looked absolutely beautiful. They also used metallic gold and silver ribbons to create some lovely accents.
5. Seasonal ideas: Autumn or Fall
Deep reds, golden yellows and earthy browns.
My wedding was held in October so the Fall theme was one that was really easy to have some fun with.We went with fruit and vegetables as the general theme instead of the usual flower arrangement. We had cut and whole pomegranates, gourds and physallis. We even scooped out the pumpkins to create beautiful (and unusual!) vases.
We even used black and steel gray candles to good effect. The contrast with the brightly colored vegetables made them stand out even more!
The wedding centerpieces fitted in perfectly with the color scheme and bridesmaids' flowers, which were a mixtures of oranges and reds.
6. Seasonal ideas: Summer
By far the most weddings occur during the Summer. In a way, holding a wedding during this season is a real gift. Summer weddings can afford to be bright and fun. There's a massive range of colors and flowers to choose from which will be cheap to buy and easy to locate. As a start, check out sunflowers, roses or irises.
Or, create a more gentle, meadowy feel by using cornflowers and daisies too. Include these flowers in the bridesmaids' dresses and head dresses to have a truly complementary theme.
Summery sweet wedding centerpiece ideas also work well. Consider using mangoes, coconuts or whole pineapples for a nice hint of the tropical.
In general, seasonal wedding centerpiece ideas can easily form the basis of any theme you choose. Make life easier (and cheaper!) for yourself by making the most of the seasonal inspiration, products and colors around you.
7. Unusual theme ideas
Don't go with the flow.
If you've decided the traditional wedding isn't for you, here are some alternatives:- Old-fashioned or retro (maybe a 60s or 70s theme?!)
- Japanese (Bonsai trees and origami)
- Ocean - shells, sand and pebbles.
- Back to nature! Think of trees, grasses, flowers, etc.
