Create A Strong Foundation To Work From

From the bottom up create a solid foundation to design your miniature world. First things first, build a strong and reliable bench to work and display your pride and joy on.

You want to get rid of any possibility of your entire railway model collapsing just as you are finished. Invest in solid lumber for the legs and frame of the bench.

Add a top of ½ inch plywood and rubberize it to insulate noise. The spectators of your train layout will mostly be small children so make sure the bench top is out of reach.

The Smoother The Better

Silky ride: Think of silk when you think of your railways and bench. The more even your rails and bench the smoother the ride will be.

Make sure that the bench is perfectly level, even the littlest bump will cause the an shaky train ride.

All track parts, joints and switches must fit firm and also check that the straights are exactly as the word indicates- straight!

Choosing The Right Starting Point

Free flow: Pick a position where your design will start, either a curve or bridge. Have your rails naturally flow from there. Place railway parts in the directions you want the rails to lead.

Do not use a large number of screws as you will have to unscrew them all if any modifications or changes are necessary.

Let the layout grow, mount a few more screws and do a trial run run. Please remember to do wiring and leading before eventual mounting is done.

Get Friends and Family Involved

Keep it fun: Building these tiny worlds N Scale Train Layouts should be fun. Let your family and friends join in and see their creativity, and it may lead to an award winning train layout.
