How to Care for Nail Supplies at Home

Ranked #135,468 in Culture & Society, #3,104,025 overall

Quality nail supplies can be costly. So once you complete your collection of manicure and pedicure materials, you want to care for them properly so they'll last a long time. Here's how to care for you nail products at home to keep them in tip-top condition.

Metal Nail Supplies-

Nail clippers, files, cuticle clippers, and other metal nail supplies can spread bacteria and are prone to rusting if they are not cared for properly. So after each use, wipe down your metal nail supplies with an alcohol soaked cotton ball. Use a clean dry towel to dab the excess alcohol off, let them air dry, and store the clean nail supplies in a dry place.

Nail Polish-

To prolong the life of your bottles of nail polish, put them in a plastic container, and store them in the refrigerator. However, if you have small children, putting bottles of nail polish is the fridge is not a good idea. So instead, put the bottles in a cool place. Also, nail polish is flammable, so never store the bottles near heat sources.

When nail polish accumulates under the tops of the nail polish bottles, it can cause messy clumps, and make the caps stick shut. To prevent this from happening, dip a q-tip in some nail polish remover, and swipe the inside of the nail polish caps before putting them back on the bottle.

Pumice Stones-

Pumice stones are long-lasting, but if they are not cleaned from time-to-time, they can become unsanitary. To thoroughly clean and sanitize your pumice stone, put it in a pillow case and toss it in the washing machine with hot bleach water.

Quality nail supplies are essential for great manicures and pedicures. And if these nail supplies are cared for properly, they can last for a long time.
