Places to see

Some of the most picturesque places to see in Nanjin are:

- Nanjin Museum was originally established in 1933.

- Qin Huai River and the Stone City Scenic Area.

- The Presidential Palace.

Taiping Kingdom History Museum.

- Zhanyuan Gardens.

- Xinjiekou, Nanjing's fashion district

- Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge, a 6km bridge over the Yangtze decorated with sculptures of workers and farmers carrying tools and soldiers carrying weapons.

- Lin Gu Temple, worth seeing for its pagoda, but also to get immersed with the smell of the blooming flowers.

- If you have the time to take a day out from Nanjing, it is worth visiting the Purple Mountain or Zijin Mountain, as it not only has some historical monuments like the tomb of the first Ming Dynasty emperor and his consorts, but the surrounding areas are also spectacular.

- Xuanwu Hu, one of Nanjing's lakes has an amusement park for kids, a small zoo, and lots of great views of the city and the Purple Mountain.

The best way to get around Nanjin is by taxi. Not only is it very cheap but it is also more comfortable. You are expected to pay only what the taximeter marks. However it might be very difficult to find a free taxi during rush hour.

Taking the bus is not recommended if you are not familiar with the language as it can be very confusing.
