Naomi Novik

Naomi Novik is the Author of the Temeraire series of books. I've become jaded by the standard fantasy novel style and never ending book cycles, and I refuse to buy or read any more generic fantasy novels.

The Temeraire novels are far from generic. They take one of Fantasy's favourite themes, dragons, and place it in a new setting, that of Napoleonic Europe (and beyond).

Naomi has studied the Napoleonic period, so if you know your Jena from your Austerlitz then you won't be disappointed, and if you don't then you can just enjoy the ride.

The impact of dragons on history has been considered, and dealt with well. The Romans tamed dragons, and the Crusaders rode them into battle. These changes have made differences to the world, but they haven't been drastic, the world has survived the inclusion of these creatures with very little upheaval from our own history.

The fourth book in the series, Empire of Ivory, was released at the end of September 2007 in the United States, and November 2007 in the UK
