Tour Napa, taste the wine

Napa is one of the oldest cities in California, founded in 1847. It is most famous for a place for wine tasting. Napa is located a little north of San Francisco Bay and many who visit San Francisco tend to visit Napa at the same time. Napa wines are top notch comparable to Italian and French wines.

Although Napa is known for its wineries, there is much more to Napa than just wine! Come explore Napa with me with the following popular places to visit!

Artesa Winery

Artesa Winery is one of the better wineries with a great selection of champenoise sparkling wines for you to sample. When you reach the top visitor center you will climb a staircase surrounded by spectacular waterfalls. Once you are at the top you will see grand paronamic views of the Napa valley. You will be amazed at the artful and European museum like atmosphere of Artesa Winery. The art and architecture throughout Artesa Winery will astound you. Artesa Winery specializes in Pinot Noir and Chardonnay

Andretti Winery

Created by racing legend Mario Andretti, this winery sits in a lower elevation on the southern end of the Napa valeey. With the San Pablo Bay nearby, this leads to cooling breezes that lead to better ripening and a longer growing season.

Domaine Carneros Winery

Domaine Carneros Winery features the best sparkling wines in town. In addition they have the best Pinot Noir in town. There are beautiful views of the vineyards as well as an outdoor terrace to sit and relax. Sample some sparkling wine along with cheese, caviar and smoked salmon. Domaine Carneros has received organic certification of all its vineyards by the California Certified Organic Farmers.

with petrified forests, it means the redwoods have become stone after years buried under volcano lava. You can choose to take a guided tour that goes for half a mile. You will be able to see rare native flowers, live oaks, manzanita trees and you will have the history of how these redwoods became petrified.

Old Faithful Geyser

There are three geysers in the world called "old faithful". This is the one located in California. If you are not familiar with geysers, they are a sight to behold. They shoot up water at very regular intervals. In the case of this geyser water shoots up every 30 minutes for a distance of about 60-100 feet in the air. This water shoots up when an underground river flows over hot magma under the earth, it boils, and it collects in cavities and is forced upward by an opening on top of the earth. It is a sight to behold and when water does not shoot up at regular intervals, scientists believe it is a good predictor of earthquakes soon to come. Visit old geyser prior to your visit to the wineries.

Hot Air Ballon Rides

If you are looking for a relaxing and scenic getaway you must try the hot air ballon rides. You start at predawn with a continental breakfast: pastries, coffe and fruit. After an hour looking at the beautiful Wine country you will descend and enjoy a champagne breakfast to celebrate your accomplishment. Some celebrities who have gone through this are Oprah, Matt Laur, and Chelsea Clinton. $220 per person, $115 per child. The balloons can carry from 6-10 people and they take off near sunrise because that's when the winds are calmest. There is very little sense of motion, so you won't get sick, you'll just experience the beauty of sunrise. There are some internet specials so check them out.

Copia

Copia is a nonprofit museum for wine and food. You can experience wine tastings, learn about food, see cooking demonstrations or just experience a wonderful garden full of fruits and vegetables. There are hundreds of classes with food and wine pairings, learn about exotic cuisines and get unique recipes for you to try! It's really a wonderful experience for the whole family. Copia was named after the goddess of abundance. If you are hungry, there is an award winning restaurant located in Copia, Julia's restaurant, named after famous chef Julia Child.

One of my favorite parts about Copia is their edible gardens. They feature three and one half acres of organic edible gardens. Eat the gardens and even learn how to grown one properly.

Since that first exposure in Sx and the City, I've been to Napa already for one whole glorious day. It was a side trip we took when we visited relatives in the Bay area of San Francisco.

My first encounter of Napa is through an episode of one of my favorite shows - the New York based production of Sex and the City. The lead character, Carrie Bradshaw has forever bee entagled with Mr. Big, her greatest love. Then one day, she gets a call from her man announcing that he's moving to California where he bought a vineyard in Napa. Carrie then mutters the famous line%u2026 "Carrie: If your tired of New York you take a napa, you don't move to Napa!" That really made me laugh. However, aside from the pop culture reference, Napa is indeed the wine capital of the world.
