4th Narnia Movie: The Magicians Nephew?

Ranked #485 in Entertainment, #5,863 overall

Will there be a 4th Narnia Movie?

I hope there will be a 4th Narnia Movie! The producers of the Chronicles of Narnia films confirmed their intention to go ahead with a 4th Narnia Movie to complement the Chronicles of Narnia films already made.

Michael Flaherty, president of Walden Media, told The Christian Post that talks had begun on the next Narnia film but, as yet, the script has not been written. It might be a couple of years before we see the next instalment.

Which Narnia Movie Next?

Would you Prefer The Silver Chair or The Magician's Nephew?

Tell The World which Narnia Movie Should be Filmed Next:

Loading

The Silver Chair

bellatheblonde says:

I think the silver chair should be next because its the next book so it makes sence. So far the movies have been in order with the books, I only hope that they would keep it that way.

anonymous says:

if they are going to stop at a fourth movie, then i think maybe the last battle, but i would like susan to be in the film too, and more older chracter sfrom before like reepicheep, caspian, trumpkin etc. otherwise i choose the silver chair.

Required Name says:

When was this article written? Anyways, I'd prefer the NEXT book in the series, until they have done ALL of them.

wadsworc says:

The Silver Chair. Now that we've been introduced to Eustace and Caspian's Narnia, it would be a bit jolting to see a completely different Narnia/characters and then keep on with the Eustace story after getting to know Digory and Polly.

kinworm says:

On one hand I'd love to see The Silver Chair filmed next seeing as it's the next book in the publication order and makes sense logically. I'd also really love to see the fantastic actor, Will Poulter, reprise his role as Eustace.

The Magician's Nephew

narnia says:

The Magician's Nephew is the sixth book published by Lewis, but is the first chronologically. It tells the story of how Narnia was created, revealing the origins of the wardrobe and other items first introduced in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
"We are starting to talk to Fox and talk to the CS Lewis estate now about the Magician's Nephew being our next film," said Michael Flaherty of Walden Media, which owns the screen rights to the Narnia series. "If we can all agree to move forward, then what we would do is find someone to write the script. So, it could still be a couple of years."

kinworm says:

However, The Magician's Nephew is such a fantastic book that I can't wait to see a blockbuster movie made for it - but only if they do it real justice bringing it to the big screen like they have with The Lord of the Rings.

What is the Fourth Narnia Movie?

Will it be The Silver Chair or The Magician's Nephew?

Many fans assume that the next Narnia film will be The Silver Chair because the films, up until now, have been following the publication order of the original CS Lewis Books and this should have been filmed next if that ordering was to be followed.

But doubt was poured on this choice when it looked as though the powers that be would choose to go with The Magician's Nephew instead.

To be fair, the second and third Narnia movies (Prince Caspian and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader) were nowhere near as successful financially as the first. Choosing to film The Magician's Nephew instead, which has always been the second most popular book, does make a lot more business sense. Even though it might not make much continuity sense to Narnia fans!

So the producers might be swaying towards filming The Magicians Nephew as the next installment. As an avid reader of the books by C. S. Lewis, I do think this would be a shame because I would have loved to see all the films made in the publication order.

I can understand the business logic behind doing The Magician's Nephew instead of the less popular The Silver Chair and maybe if enough people support the Chronicles of Narnia movies, we'll get all of them made eventually.

The Magician's Nephew

The Magicians Nephew is the prequel to the Narnia series even though C. S. Lewis wrote it as sixth in the Chronicles of Narnia series. Originally titled Polly and Digory because it revolves around the escapades of these two children who get sucked into what becomes the magical world of Narnia.

Tilda Swinton who plays the White Witch (also called Jadis) in the 2005 The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, talks about her character in an interview: "I hope they make it. [The Magician's Nephew] It's a prequel that explains where Jadis came from and how Narnia is created. She's so bad that she destroyed her empire to spite her sister. There's this one deplorable word, which we don't know what it is, that if it's spoken; everything is vanquished and she's the only one alive. She does it to spite her sister. She just wants to dominate. The idea of anybody having anything over her is confusing." Quote credit.

Reading Order - Chronicles of Narnia

And Chronicles of Narnia Movie Order

The Chronicles of Narnia Books (UK Chronicles of Narnia) on which the movies are based, were originally written in the following order (publication date) by C. S. Lewis and many people argue this original way is the best way to read them.

I've read through the books both ways and I really prefer them by the publication order - they just flow better. At some point it was recommended that people read the books in their chronological order (according to the timeline of the stories) and this became the standard.

The movies have, so far, been following the publication order which has made a lot of sense seeing that this ensured they could start with filming the most popular of the books (The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe) first.

By Publication Date:

By Chronological Order:

1) The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe: 1950

1) The Magician's Nephew

2) Prince Caspian: 1951

2) The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe

3) The Voyage of the Dawn Treader: 1952

3) The Horse and His Boy

4) The Silver Chair: 1953

4) Prince Caspian

5) The Horse and His Boy: 1954

5) The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

6) The Magician's Nephew: 1955

6) The Silver Chair

7) The Last Battle: 1956

7) The Last Battle

When is the 4th Narnia Movie Coming Out?

The script for the 4th movie has not yet been written so I would imagine we are looking at a 2013 release date. I cannot see how they could manage to get a good script written, the movie filmed, edited and released any earlier. Fingers crossed it won't be any longer than that timescale.

Will this be the last Narnia Movie?

This is my personal opinion. But, I really think if the 4th Narnia movie doesn't enjoy the same kind of success as the 1st one (The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe) then I suspect it will be the last.

After all, movie-making is a big business. If movies don't return excellent profits then they simply can't continue.

I will be putting my hands in my pockets to go and view the next film at the cinema (as I have with the previous Narnia movies) and I'm also getting the Chronicles of Narnia films (UK Chronicles of Narnia films) as they are released. I hope I can encourage other people to support the movies because they are wonderful, magical family films.

VOTE for your Best Narnia Movie!

This one is easy for me because we saw The Voyage of the Dawn Treader at the cinema and we were all blown away by how good and entertaining it was. I love the sea and am fascinated with boats - so a bit of a no-brainer really.

It seemed especially good after Prince Caspian which is a bit of a slow burn - although I do think that one takes time to grow on you.

Great lens! I wondered how the producers were going to make a film out of Dawn Treader--the book's great, but it doesn't lend itself to today's cinema expectations. I think it turned out well, but it wasn't my favorite of the three current ones. Great acting and effects, but of all the films so far, I think its storyline lacked the most of CS Lewis's touch. I hope they make a fourth one soon though!
    • melissiaoliver May 4, 2012 @ 10:49 am | delete
I think they should make The Silver Chair next - it was set up so perfectly at the end of Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Prince Caspian was awful as a film, but the Voyage of the Dawn Treader more than made up for that. The problem is that most people think that TLTW&TW was the first book - surprisingly few people realise that The Magician's Nephew is the beginning of the series.
    • kinworm May 5, 2012 @ 12:27 pm | delete
You are so right, Melissia. Many people don't realise that The Magician's Nephew is actually the start of the Narnia series. Sadly, I don't think we're going to see another Narnia movie for a long time :( I hope I'm wrong but I don't think so.

I love the Narnia Series, but nothing was like the first. My girls love it as well. And while we've seen all of them, nothing compares to The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe! Be blessed today!
