This unique marine mammal is often thought to be one of the origins behind the mythology of the unicorn. Narwhals are a type of whale, living in the Russian, Atlantic and Arctic Oceans.

Narwhal males have a long "tusk" on their heads, but this physical feature is actually a twisted tooth, most often the left front tooth on the animal. In rare instances, females have been noted to have tusks as well.

Other names for this species include corpse whales or moon whales. The narwhal is one of the many sea creatures named in the B-52s pop classic "Rock Lobster."

What do Narwhals eat?

Not a whole lot is known about the diet of the Narwhal, but they have been known to eat squid, flatfish and certain species of ocean halibut.
