NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series

I'm sure glad that NASCAR has something for everybody.

That's why NASCAR has three national divisions:

The Nationwide Series

The Sprint Cup Series

The Craftsman Truck Series

I don't know about you, but I've always enjoyed the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series because it adds a whole new aspect of competition to auto racing.

Founded back in 1995, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series was the brainchild of off-road racers Jimmy Smith, Frank "Scoop" Vessels, Dick Landfield and Jim Venable back in 1993.

Way to go guys!

The Super Truck Series

Few NASCAR fans could tell you that the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series was originally called the Super Truck Series back in 1995.

And here is another little know fact that you can use to impress your NASCAR buddies.

Are you ready for this?

A one time, Dale Earnhardt, Sr. helped put Super Trucks on the track for others.

Because it became so popular, the Super Truck Series was renamed in 1996 to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.

And the rest as they say is history.

Early Years Of NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series

You'll find this hard to believe.

Unless you have followed NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series since the beginning in 1995, you may not be aware of this next bit of interesting history.

Instead of pit stops as you are familiar with today, in the beginning the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race had two intermissions. For longer races, the action was interrupted by three intermissions.

Tires changes were permitted in the first and third period breaks.

By mid-1998 NASCAR switch to limited pit stops that were being used for other NASCAR division series races.

Kyle Busch Gets Booted From NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Do You Know The Real Story?

Kyle Busch was only one of many current NASCAR stars like Kevin Harvick, Carl Edwards, Greg Biffle Scott Riggs and others, who started their NASCAR careers in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.

So what happened to Kyle Busch?

The 2001 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race in Fontana, California was the time when Kyle Busch was booted from the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.

I'll give you a hint as to why he was thrown out of the race.

Your Hint: This was the Marlboro 500.

OK. I'll make it easy on you if you don't know the answer.

Kyle Busch was thrown out of the Marlboro 500 in 2001 because he was only 16 years old. Tobacco sponsorships required that all NASCAR competitors be a minimum of 18 years old.

2002 NASCAR made this age requirement standard.

TV And NASCAR Crftsman Truck Series

Most of the early races had national TV coverage by CBS, ABC, ESPN, TNN and WTBS.

But, it wasn't until 2001 that NASCAR moved The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series to cable channels and in 2003 to the Speed Channel.

This next part's a bit complicated.

I was going to give you the long version of what happened in history to the TV coverage. The fact is, the long version is too boring and has too many words.

Here's the short version for you.

As of this writing, NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series includes network TV on FOX.

One last word for all you NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series fans.

The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series will no longer be sponsored by Craftsman after the 2008 season.
