NASCAR Fuel And Why It Has Changed

How long has it been since you and I have had to use unleaded fuel?

It wasn't until the 2008 racing season that NASCAR announced that it would be switching to unleaded fuel. One of the main reasons for this change is because environmental groups have been complaining for years about dirty NASCAR emissions using leaded gasoline.

Would you believe that passenger car manufacturers started the change-over to unleaded fuels in 1971? So,why did it take so long for NASCAR to change from leaded gasoline?

Why will NASCAR fuel be more environmentally friendly as of 2008?

Unleaded NASCAR fuels all cause extensive damage to the engines.

It's not that NASCAR was being defiant about using unleaded gas. The problem was that years of gasoline research hadn't produced a NASCAR fuel that was acceptable to NASCAR race teams.

It's only because NASCAR, SUNOCO and The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) worked closely together to create a new formula for NASCAR fuel that everyone found acceptable. There is no question that, this was not an easy job that took several years to complete.

Technology and innovation both made this new NASCAR fuel possible for the 2008 NASCAR racing season.

SUNOCO has made a new NASCAR fuel formula called 260 GTX. This new fuel formula doesn't harm engines and still provides the performance that the race teams demand.
