Nate Balcom Social Media Dynamo

Ranked #2,083 in Squidoo Community, #179,704 overall

Nate in a Nutshell

I've been building websites for over 10 years now. I have a background in code, SEO, e-commerce, CMS implementation, graphic design and so much more. I have a warehouse in my brain for outdated mark up languages.

During the day I portray a mild mannered SEO Manager at Auto Credit Express where I get to build and promote websites with a highly talented group of programmers, designers, web developers and other assorted savvy geeks. I get to do what I love to do and I get paid for it. Pretty sweet deal.

At night I go home to the 3 ladies in my life. We enjoy making all sorts of art projects, coloring, going to the park, having dance parties, creating music videos, macaroni, Sponge Bob, Jem and the Holograms and the color pink. I love my girls. Life is good.

Early Me

I was born in a small town in Michigan called Owosso. I have 2 great parents and 2 siblings that are like brothers and sisters to me. We moved to Chicago when I was in third grade and then back to Michigan by the time I was in 5th grade.

In junior high I skated vert ramp and was a full time skate punk. By the time I moved onto high school I was involved with the Media club. We made the video yearbook and had a public access news show called the Independence Update.

By the 11th grade I was going to vocational school for advertising design. This was just before computers. We did hand layouts of ads in marker. Rub down type was popular and we had a photo enlarger for cropping and sizing images to be traced. It was here that my love for art and design really began to take off.

Family Life

My Girls Are My World

At night after my duties as SEO ninja I retire to my humble home with the 3 ladies in my life my 2 daughters and wife Nicole. My girls are my world.

When I'm not busy making the web a better place I'm with my family making art projects, hanging out at cider mills, camping, chasing butterflies or one of a million other activities I haven't done since I was a kid. Seeing life through their eyes is a one of the most rewarding feelings there is. And I'm sure it sounds a little corny, but my family is awesome. I'm a lucky guy and life is good.

My History With Squidoo

I've been on Squidoo since Oct 26, 2006. I was pretty big into the platform when it first came out. I don't have any particular reason why I fell off for a few years other than the fact I was biking more and building websites. Not until I started my account and re-invented myself as GoAceNate on January 7, 2011 had I even worked on any lenses. I've been making up for lost time this year building new content and making my existing lenses better by learning all I can from the many talented lensmaters on this site.

My Favorite Podcasts

The Best Podcast on the Web According to Me

Being that I work online I'm always in need of something new to listen to for the majority of the day. This is what I listen to listed from my very favorite podcasts first.
The Adam Carolla Show

I've been a huge Fan of Adam Carolla since his time on Loveline. I was there for the beginning and end of the radio show and didn't miss a beat when he moved into his warehouse in California and started podcasting. Adam has the #1 most downloaded podcast record according to Guinness World Records

Doug Loves Movies
Comedian Doug Benson has a great lineup of comedians on his show. There's always someone different and it's always hilarious!
Jay And Silent Bob Get Old

Kevin Smith and Jason Mews from Mall Rats fame podcast about everything. Sometimes from the Jon Lovitz podcast theater or on location in a town near you. I never miss this one.

Hollywood Babylon
Ralph Garmin and Kevin Smith rant about current events, dead celebrities, and so much more. This is a great podcast, but it does get pretty racy content-wise.
We're Alive

A great zombie podcast recorded like the old time radio shows. Great stories, great cast, great listen. I've personally heard each one of these episodes at least 5 times each.

This American Life
I've been listening to American Public Radio my whole life. This is my favorite program that comes out every weekend. Ira Glass and his team are compelling and funny. There's always a new story and it's always captivating.
This Week with Larry Miller

Larry's podcast comes out usually a couple times a week. They are about a half hour to 45 mins long, but just down right hilarious. If you're a fan of comedy listen to this podcast.

The Nerdist
Nerdist is a place where we nerds come together and share the nerdery that we find. It's also my home to various elements of the Nerdist Empire. You might recognize me from TV. You don't realize that's where you know me from, but it is.
