Wow! It's time for National Donut Day! It's celebrated on the first Friday in the month of June. How it all started?

In the year 1917 the Salvation Army female volunteers known also as "Lassies" prepared thousands of sweet fresh donuts which they served to homesick soldiers. These soldiers served in France during the World War I.

But the day was officially established in the year 1938 by the Chicago Salvation Army. They used it in raising funds during the great depression. Nowadays it is also used as a fund raiser for needy causes of the Salvation Army.
