The National Notary Association (NNA) is an internationally recognized professional organization serving more than 4.8 million notaries in the United States. When the association formed in 1957, American notaries lacked adequate resources for the education and tools they needed to perform their duties. Notary laws varied widely from state to state, which made things even more complicated. The National Notary Association established several goals for assisting their growing membership base. They wanted notaries to be fully aware of their state laws and best practices in order to reduce liability and risks to signers. They also wanted to arm notaries with knowledge and tools that would enable them to earn income and expand their careers. The National Notary Association is frequently sought out by the media to explain the critical role of the notary public, and also provides educational information to notary organizations throughout the world.
