National Pancake Day

National Pancake Day started from the age old custom of farmers using up all their milk products before "Lent", because during Lent you were not supposed to eat milk and dairy products. Bummer!

It seems that IHOP has gotten behind National Pancake Day to help Children's Miracle Network Hospitals raises funds for 170 children's hospitals across North America. IHOP, short for International House of Pancakes is celebrating National Pancake Day on February 28th this year by giving away free pancakes. They have a goal of raising $2.7 million dollars this year.

What's Your Favorite Flavor?

I always loved the fruit creations my mother would make for flavoring the pancakes she made. Banana was a favorite, depending on what fruit was in season allowed other choices. Blueberries, strawberries, pineapple, blackberry, apple, etc. Some of the toppings needed to be cooked first but they all were delicious. Sometimes she would just flavor the syrup. She talked of how her and her brothers would enjoy their pancakes with jams and jellies smeared on them and rolled up to eat on the way to school.

Pancakes... So which is it for Breakfast or Supper?

My mother said her and my dad argued everytime she made pancakes for supper, he thought it was a breakfast food. She knew better, or at least she knew us kids would side with her. Can you say, "YUM!!!"?

I love breakfast for supper!

I love them for breakfast but there's no better treat than having breakfast for supper.

SarahHappens says:

As an adult (who gets to choose what she eats and when, thankyouverymuch!), I love having pancakes for dinner.

Thin or Fluffy?

I grew up loving thin pancakes, most restaurants seem to lean toward fluffy cake versions.

Do you think pancakes should be fluffy like cake or do you prefer them thin to win?

Fluffy like cake!

kathysart says:

Both, it depends on my mood.

intermarks says:

Light and fluffy will be better for me.

BlueTrane says:

light n fluffy

goo2eyes says:

i love either way but i choose fluffy like cake because they're easy to chew.

WriterJanis says:

I like fluffy.

cffutah says:

lets the syrup seep in better.

SarahHappens says:

Fluffy like cake! How else can the pancakes soak up all the maple syrup and butter?!

Thin to WIn!

DebMartin says:

I adore crepes and a very thin pancake I make that actually gets baked with apples and brown sugar. So good.

How to make Homemade Pancakes

What I liked about this video is how she tested the griddle to see if it was hot enough with water sprinkled on the top, the water will dance just a tiche before sizzling away. Also she does a test pancake, my mother did this same. I think she flipped her test pancake too soon but to each their own. I watch the bubbles and as the outside bubbles pop and batter is too cooked to fill in the hole, time to flip. I also like a thin pancake, 3/8 of an inch.
