National Rubber Ducky Day is centered around the one joyous bath toy most of us adored as children. Not only was it's squishy existence an exciting reason to clean ourselves, but it also came complete with it's own theme song (keep reading below!), that I for one LOVED singing in the tub.
Please sit back, relax, and browse this fun lens based on one of the quirkiest holidays observed in January. You'll find information about National Rubber Ducky Day including what it is, how it's celebrated, and some interesting facts about the famous rubber ducky himself. I hope you enjoy!

Who Knew the Rubber Ducky Had Such Stamina?
While no one is quite certain why we celebrate National Rubber Ducky day, there is an interesting story about the rubber ducky toy that is observed with it's own national holiday.
This important rubby ducky event that took place almost ten years ago comes from Punchbowl (read the complete story here), an online party planning site...
"During a Pacific storm on January 10, 1992, over 29,000 rubber ducky bath toys from a Chinese company were washed off of a cargo ship. Months after the storm, about two thirds of the rubber duckies had made there way to the shores of Indonesia, Australia, and South America. Some of the ducks also entered into the Bering Straight between Alaska and Russia where they became trapped in the Arctic ice. The ducks slowly made their way through the ice at one mile per day and in 2000, they were spotted in the Northern Atlantic Ocean".
Apparently when rubber duckys enjoy the water, they take on entire oceans!

- Fun lens. Congrats on a Squidoo masterpiece! (I used to enjoy the Deming, New Mexico duck races!) ... And in San Jose, California, they have rubber ducky races as well. One of my cubicle colleagues where I work in San Jose has his cubicle decorated and lined with rubber duckies... Definitely a fun thing!
