National Tie One On Day
Sharing a gift of thanks at Thanksgiving
National Tie One On Day celebrates the humble apron and the spirit of women of earlier generations who donned the universal symbol of home, family and mothering as the uniform of their daily wardrobe and helped make America the great country it is today.
On the day before Thanksgiving, EllynAnne Geisel - author of The Apron Book - encourages us to pause in the preparation of our own meal, wrap a loaf of bread in an apron, tuck a prayer or note of encouragement in the pocket, and tie one on...an apron, of course!, and deliver the wrapped bundle to someone in need of spiritual or physical sustenance. According to EllynAnne, no matter which way you turn out of your own front door, someone who is deserving of a hug is very close by.

- I found the link a week after I ordered the book on Amazon, never linking the two until today.
My husband and I currently live in Germany and I am going to send an apron to my sister in the states. I already have one of her friends to help me deliver the apron and bread in such a way that she doesn't realise who its from! We're both getting excited about this and can't wait to hear what she does and how far she goes to figure out who its from!
I'm also making three other aprons to gift to friends here. So, technically it should be called "International Tie One On Day"!!!
